POSITION: Academic and Behavior Interventionist

SALARY: Teacher Salary Schedule

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 Months

REPORTS TO: Principal

POSITION SUMMARY: The Academic and Behavior Interventionist will provide support to students and staff by performing Tier 2 and Tier 3 Behavior Check Ins with students. In addition, when students receive an In School Suspension or Out of School Suspension, the Interventionist will facilitate transition conversations with students. The Interventionist will ensure that teachers submit work to students that are out of school due to a disciplinary consequence. The Interventionist also works with external agencies to see if there is availability for students to attend when they have a short-term suspension.

The Academic and Behavior Interventionist will be the co-lead of the school’s Behavior Intervention Improvement Accountability Committee as well as the Student Services Weekly PLC. The committee reviews student and staff perceptual data and delivers ongoing professional development. The Interventionist also identifies literature that promotes social-emotional learning that will be sent home with progress reports and report cards. The Interventionist will visit classes once a month to deliver lessons on topics that include goal setting, peer conflict, coping with stress, and student efficacy. The Interventionist will also lead data-based problem solving meetings and will use the appropriate data platform to document SEL tier plans and interventions. The Interventionist will provide PowerBreakfast Mindful Monday and Thoughtful Thursday resources to staff. The Interventionist will conduct walkthroughs to identify trends and practices that support a classroom environment that promotes academic success.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • Must hold a NC Educator's Continuing License
  • Four or more years of teaching experience preferred
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, problem solving, and organizational skills required to effectively facilitate professional development
  • Skills in collecting, analyzing, and using data
  • Ability to collaboratively design high quality training for teachers and school staff
  • Knowledge regarding technical material, software application, conflict resolution, regulations and policies, adult learning best practices, as well as curriculum and instructional methods
  • Knowledge of North Carolina Standard Course of Study, particularly in secondary education
  • Knowledge of North Carolina State and National Gifted Standards
  • Ability to work independently, manage time and resources to accomplish assigned tasks
  • Capacity to work as part of a team; leading, delegating and organizing tasks planning and managing multiple projects
  • Ability to network and facilitate internal and external groups; communicate diverse groups and individuals; meet deadlines and schedules

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms
  • Requires the ability to speak before groups of people with poise, voice control and confidence
  • Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of fingering, grasping, kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license.
