Why does the job exist?

The Specialized BHS Coordinator will:

  • Provide general subject matter expertise to assigned behavioral health programs including Comprehensive Community Support Services (CCSS), Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR), Adult Accredited Residential Treatment Center (AARTC)l Intensive Outpatient programs (IOP), Assertive Community Treatment (ACT);
  • Provide oversight to assigned programs which includes but is not limited to reviewing, processing and approving applications, writing letters and technical reports, providing technical assistance to providers, conducting site visits to evaluate program performance, ensuring implementation of program goals and outcomes;
  • Ensure adherence to state and federal statues and guidelines; ensuring safety and service delivery; monitoring financial and budgetary needs, approving specialized behavioral health programs;
  • Conduct monthly/ quarterly Learning Communities for behavioral health providers, Attend meetings as scheduled (Behavioral Health Services Division (BHSD), Clinical Services Team meetings, and Program Coordinator Meetings with BHSD finance staff. Collaborate with other departments, providers and constituents including Children Youth and Families Department (CYFD), the Inter-departmental Council (IDC), the Medical Assistance Division (MAD) of the Health Care Authority (HCA), and other departments as needed.

How does it get done?

The Specialized BHS Coordinator is responsible for:

  • Researching systems and service delivery. Evaluating provider and consumer needs regarding behavioral health services to include Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) and other specialized behavioral health services Comprehensive Community Support Services (CCSS), Intensive Outpatient (IOP), PSR (Psycho Social Rehabilitation), and Adult Accredited Residential Treatment Center (AARTC);
  • Ensuring adherence to statutory requirements, department and division standards, quality improvement processes, work force issues, inclusion of best practice concepts and ensuring the use of evidence-based practices to services delivered.;
  • Conducting Site Visits and provide ongoing support and technical assistance to providers. Utilizing work experience, professional knowledge and clinical skills in the review, approval, denial of existing behavioral health services and programs;
  • Working toward improving upon and developing services to address the needs of New Mexicans;
  • Developing processes to ensure service delivery is efficient and effective;
  • Understanding current systems and services that are provided state-wide in planning and expanding behavioral health services and supporting integrated care.

  • The Health Care Authority (HCA) and associated divisions, Providers, Agencies, consumers and constituents of behavioral health services.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate has experience:

  • In program & project management, including Project Planning, task lists & spreadsheets;
  • Proficiently utilizing Microsoft Office;
  • Demonstrated history of past employment in the Social Services and/ or behavioral health field;
  • In Customer service & is resolution focused;
  • Managing complex projects & is detail oriented;
  • Dedicated to improving the accessibility and quality of behavioral health care in New Mexico.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, Education,

Sociology, Criminal Justice, Criminology, and/or Family Studies/Services and four (4) years of any combination of experience including working with communities, working on health or social service related matters, social work/case management experience, behavioral health, and/or health care. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related

field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting: late hours and weekends work may be required. Will be exposed to regular periods of video display terminal and keyboard usage and stressful situations. Travel may be required. Incumbent will work under stress and frequent time constraints. Must have own mode of transportation. Incumbent may be required to furnish a personal vehicle for carrying out assignments.
