OVERVIEW

Consumer Reports (CR) is an 89-year-young, non-profit, with a mission to create a fair and just marketplace for all, focusing on Safety, Sustainability, Financial Fairness, and Digital Rights. The organization is on a multi-year journey to transform how we use Data and AI more strategically.

As Director of Data Architecture and Engineering, you will be responsible for defining data architectural standards; building reliable, scalable, and maintainable data systems; and overseeing the delivery of data solutions that power customer-facing products and experiences – aligned with strategic business objectives, governance policies, and best-in-class software engineering practices. This role will report to the Chief Data Officer.

If you're passionate about data engineering and building data solutions that enable CR to deliver value at scale and create customer delight, we’d love to hear from you! BTW: CR has been recognized by Fast Company, as a 2025 World’s Most Innovative Company.

This role is open to remote candidates; however, preference will be given to those who are able to work in a hybrid capacity and commute to our Yonkers, NY office approximately twice per month. This position is not eligible for sponsorship.

How You’ll Make An Impact

  • Build Data Services: Deliver scalable, high-availability REST APIs that enable secure and seamless data flow across digital platforms
  • Inspire Talent: Coach and grow a high-performing engineering team: driving technical excellence, continuous learning, and meaningful impact.

ABOUT YOU

You’ll Be Highly Rated If:

  • You have the right foundations. You hold a Master’s degree in a STEM field with Computer Science basics and bring at least 10 years of experience in Software Engineering, including 5+ years of managing high-performing teams.
  • You’re fluent in Data architecture and Engineering. You have experience in building and operationalizing data engineering systems on modern data platforms (e.g., Databricks, Snowflake) on cloud (e.g., AWS), integrating with transactional SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., Oracle, MongoDB).
  • You love coding. You are an expert in one of the object-oriented programming languages (Ex. Java, Python), and frameworks (Ex. Spring Boot, PySpark); and can build data management applications, ETL/ELT pipelines, and services (REST APIs)
