The University of Miami, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, has an exciting full time opportunity for an Ophthalmic Technician 2 (OT2) in Naples, Florida. The Ophthalmic Technician 2 (OT2) is proficient in the theory, principles, and practice of eye care. OT2 performs appropriate clinical testing in compliance with department standards and documents in the EMR system.
Core Job Functions:
- Ophthalmic Technician 2 performs and documents the following items in the electronic medical record.
- Reason for visit
- Tangent screen visual fields
- Chief complaint
- Basic ocular motility
- History of present illness
- Pupillary evaluation
- Basic review of systems
- Ocular surface assessment
- Review systemic and ocular medications
- Eye drop administration
- Record allergies
- Intraocular pressure such as Goldman, Tono-Pen, and I-Care
- Pharmacy information
- Pachymetry
- Family, social, medical, and ocular history
- Insertion and removal of hard & soft contact lenses
- Visual acuity at distance and near
- Color vision test
- Lensometry
- Stereopsis test
- Manual refraction
- Sensorimotor exam
- Confrontational fields
- Automated & manual perimetry
- Humphrey visual fields
- Virtual Reality (VR) visual fields
- Amsler Grid visual fields
- Provides support to providers which includes documentation in patient charts as required and directed for patient care.
- Provides patient-centric care.
- Adheres to University of Miami policies, standards, values, and required training.
- Complies with regulations and maintain patient confidentiality. Follows best practices of patient safety, hand hygiene, and infection control.
- Attends educational courses for ophthalmic personnel when assigned.
- Demonstrates high quality of work through accuracy, timeliness, professionalism, and thoroughness.
- Meets daily productivity goals. Maintains JCAHPO certifications.
- Ensures all equipment is calibrated and instrumentation is in proper working order. Participates in assigned clinical research and maintain required certifications.
- Organizes and stocks rooms for daily clinical activities.
- Travels to satellite eye centers when necessary.
- Works evenings and weekends as needed.
- Completes IVI (intravitreal injection) prep for patients.
- Facilitates motility exams. Supports Virtual Care encounters and exams.
- Performs imaging including but not limited to fundus photos, OCTs, and Slit Lamp exams.
- Assists with training and onboarding clinical support staff.
- Acts as a super-user for technology implementations, optimizations, and training initiatives.
- Acts as preceptor and trainer for imaging team members Serves as a lead technician providing oversight to clinical teams when assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent
Required Certification and Licensing:
Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) required.
Experience:
Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
