As a Data Protection Platform Operations Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting the development, integration, and security of the data platforms that power bp’s enterprise applications. You'll work hands-on with engineers and architects to ensure optimal performance, resilience, and compliance across bp’s cloud and data ecosystems. This is an excellent opportunity to expand your platform engineering expertise while delivering impactful, real-world solutions.

You’ll join a collaborative, high-performing team of engineers and product managers, working closely with technology and business partners to support data initiatives that accelerate bp’s digital transformation and strengthen its platform capabilities.

What You’ll Deliver

  • Contribute to the configuration, integration, and ongoing maintenance of enterprise-scale data platforms.
  • Support CI/CD pipeline implementation and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) adoption to streamline deployments.
  • Monitor platform performance and availability, identifying opportunities to improve reliability and scalability.
  • Assist with basic security operations such as access control, activity monitoring, and remediation efforts.
  • Collaborate on the delivery of data pipelines and platform capabilities across cloud environments.
  • Support documentation efforts, testing, and ongoing process improvements across the platform lifecycle.
  • Ensure data systems adhere to compliance, governance, and security requirements.

What You’ll Bring

Technical Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in technology, engineering, or a related field.
  • 2–4 years of experience in IT, platform engineering, or data engineering roles.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools and Infrastructure-as-Code technologies such as Terraform, Azure Bicep, or AWS CDK.
  • Basic scripting/automation experience with Python, Java, or Scala.
  • Exposure to data processing frameworks like Apache Airflow, Spark, or Kafka.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and understanding of cloud-native data solutions.
  • Foundational knowledge of data modeling, data lakes, and both SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams using structured engineering practices.

Key Competencies

  • Technical experience with Microsoft Azure, AWS, Databricks, and Palantir.
  • Understanding of data pipelines, ingestion, transformation, and visualization workflows.
  • Awareness of platform security principles and enterprise data governance practices.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar for data visualization.
  • Experience with distributed systems, supporting both real-time and batch processing.
  • Curiosity and adaptability in response to emerging technologies and evolving platform needs.

Bonus Skills

  • Experience operating in highly regulated, compliance-driven environments.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML-driven data engineering practices that apply intelligent automation to optimize workflows.
