Description

As a Ground Systems Engineer, provide system engineering and technical assistance within the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) Electro-Optical System Program Office (ESPO). Responsibilities include oversight of satellite operations related to the ground Vehicle Unique Element (VUE) command & control software. Responsibilities will focus on ensuring that the VUE software operates as designed and participation in any Satellite anomalies related to the VUE software. Qualified candidates must possess demonstrated satellite ground expertise, problem solving skills, creativity and a willingness and to go the extra mile to resolve issues in a dynamic fast-paced NRO System Program Office.

Key duties/responsibilities include, but are not limited to

  • Monitor space vehicle performance metrics, telemetry trending, and actively participates in VUE software anomaly resolution activities.
  • Support the identification of root cause of operational issues related to EVUE software. Manage and help prioritize developer Defects and Discrepancy Reports (DRs) related to the VUE.
  • Investigate & develop innovative ways to utilize the satellite’s unique capabilities.
  • Review NRO enterprise Requests For Change (RFCs) for impacts related to the satellite VUE software.
  • Maintain a solid understanding of satellite system capabilities & CONOPS to include numerous tools needed for system tasking, data file transfers, and collection statistics.
  • Author, review, and coordinate documents, briefings and data to aid the Government in communications and decision-making. Update Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs), training materials, and workaround fixes in response to space vehicle CONOP changes and anomalies.
  • Provide technical support to customer working groups and develop productive relationships with other NRO stakeholder offices, development contractor counterparts, and other subject matter experts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors and two years or more experience; Masters and zero years related experience.
  • 5 or more years of engineering experience working in a space system program office (SPO) or a satellite ground development program.
  • Experience with Agile software development activities/milestones.
  • Experience supporting Launch and Initialization (L&I) activities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
