Join our Student Affairs and Academic Operations team at Utah’s flagship College of Nursing at the University of Utah. As the Community Engagement & Outreach Coordinator you will facilitate, implement, and manage mutually beneficial efforts to connect our faculty, staff and students to the larger Salt Lake and Utah communities. This position within Student Affairs and Academic Operations is well-suited for a dynamic, self-motivated, and collaborative professional; the successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing robust and nimble processes, strategies, and initiatives that support the College of Nursing vision and goals.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in community outreach and engagement, program coordination, planning and scheduling, and communicating with various types of stakeholders. They will have a strong commitment to higher education, health and wellness and inclusivity. This position requires extensive interaction with community members, students, faculty, and other school and university staff. This person must have strong communication and project management skills, have a high-quality service orientation, be an effective team player, and excellent organizer to handle multiple tasks with minimal supervision.

This position reports to the Director of Student Affairs & Academic Operations with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Associate Dean for Practice and Community Collaboration (PACC).

Responsibilities

  • Determine community needs and plan, coordinate, manage, and execute outreach and community engagement initiatives
  • Serve as the primary point of contact at the CoN for U Health and local community members and groups
  • Organize, manage and track all CoN outreach requests to support outreach programs, events, and activities
  • Chair the CoN Community Outreach & Engagement Committee
  • Oversee faculty, staff, student, and alumni volunteers and provide timely communication regarding opportunities for community collaboration
  • Recognize – formally and informally – volunteers who support community engagement.
  • Collaborate with the CoN’s Communication Team to develop a communication plan, write articles, inform social media, print, and marketing strategies for engagement and outreach efforts
  • Help prepare grant proposals
  • Represent CoN on Health Sciences, U of U, and/or community-based committees as deemed appropriate – deliver presentations, brochures, information handouts
  • Coordinate and manage the CoN’s Annual Summer Camp and the College hosting at least one Saturday Academy per year
  • Stay current on best practices, trends, concepts, and techniques of effective outreach and engagement efforts
  • Manage and maintain outreach budget and provide purchasing support as needed
  • Develop and maintain relationship with leaders of pathways to nursing programs (e.g., Proxima)
  • Coordinate requests for prospective students, student groups, and community members to tour the CoN and/or CoN Simulation Center
  • Manage and coordinate CoN Ambassador program (to support efforts such as HS visits, HOSA outreach, Proxima relationships, Summer camps, Saturday academy, etc.)
  • Represent the U and CoN with professionalism in all community interactions
  • Must possess the ability to independently travel to community locations frequently
  • Other relevant duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).

Four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.

Preferences

Spanish or other language skills would be welcomed.

Additional training or certification in Event Planning or Community Engagement would also be welcomed.
