MUST HAVE CLEAN BACKGROUND

SUMMARY

2nd shift 5:15pm-2am

Handles scrap, recyclable, non-hazardous, and hazardous waste generated from the process of building automobiles. The responsibilities of this position include contributing to Environmental Management System (EMS) performance, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement in the protection of the environment and reduction of pollution from the activities within the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follows safety guidelines and procedures
  • Participates in team meetings and training
  • Cleans work area according to 5’s standards
  • Unloads new waste containers to be used in plant
  • Unloads waste containers in storage area according to waste type
  • Transfers waste rags and paper from drums to Gaylord boxes
  • Crushes cans and drums in drum crusher
  • Punctures aerosol cans.
  • Picks-up, boxes, and stores used light bulbs
  • Runs daily route to pick up full drums waste containers and/or empty raw material drums for storage and disposal
  • Weighs waste containers before putting into storage
  • Assists in loading waste containers for shipment
  • Assists in other areas as time permits
  • Other duties may be assigned

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or GED; and one to three months related experience and/or training.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION

Training as defined in 40402AAA, Training Requirements Matrix. GMI, Inc. unique training may be obtained during first three months of employment. Additional training will be provided as a part of Continuous Improvement.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, write legibly and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts, in outside weather conditions and is frequently exposed to wet, humid, extreme cold, and extreme heat conditions. The employee may be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.

The employee will be required to wear protective clothing, gloves, hard hat, respirator, as specified in the various processes and/or instructions. The employee will also be required to wear safety shoes and safety glasses. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
