Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wausau, WI is seeking a MANAGER - LABORATORY to join our LABORATORY team!

The Manager of the Laboratory is responsible for the delivery of laboratory services for Aspirus Wausau Hospital and the Aspirus Reference Laboratory (ARL). This position plans and manages laboratory operations in regard to services, quality, positive patient outcomes, and cost efficiency.

HOURS: Full-Time or 1.0 FTE, 80 hours every 2 weeks.

Experience/Qualifications

  • Knowledge of laboratory standards and practices normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or related science, or equivalent.
  • A Master’s Degree and/or specialty certification, e.g., SBB, SH, etc., beneficial.
  • A minimum of four years’ experience as a Medical Technologist under a qualified Medical Director.
  • Previous experience in supervision of personnel.
  • Possesses active Medical Technology/Medical Lab Technology (MT/MLT)-ASCP or CLS-NCA certification.
  • Possesses strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including ability to coach, enroll, counsel, and mentor.

Additional duties:

  • Is accountable for the staff and operations of the following areas:
    • Point of Care
    • Send-outs
    • Lab test utilization/stewardship
    • Aspirus Medical Laboratory Science Program
  • Coordinates and manages quality assurance of the laboratory department, including tracking and trending of laboratory errors.
  • Helps identify opportunities for improvement, and coordinates quality and process improvement initiatives.
  • Leads the effort to identify and implement best practice laboratory test utilization and stewardship.
  • Serves as Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) Coordinator as described for this role within NACCLS requirements for CLS Program Director. Specific aspects of this role include:
    • Teaching courses.
    • Conducting and managing various learning experiences.
    • Evaluating student achievement and overall program effectiveness.
    • Develops and evaluates program curriculum.
    • Creating policies and procedures of the CLS program.
    • Assures readiness and compliance with accreditation standards and surveys.
    • Maintains active and cooperative communication between program and affiliated universities.
    • Reviews, evaluates and finalizes program goals, objectives and competencies.
    • Supervises lecture and clinical rotation faculty, e.g. laboratory technical staff.
    • Functions in a multifaceted role with students:
  • Recruits and interviews prospective students. Coordinates student selection.
  • Evaluates and counsels students in academic affairs.
  • Maintains student records.
  • Prepares student schedules.
  • Directs orientation of new students.
