The Clinical Dietitian coordinates the nutritional aspects of patient care in a wide variety of inpatient and outpatient settings and serves as a resource for promoting nutrition education within the organization and community. This position performs and documents nutrition assessments for at risk patients identified through nutrition screening. This position assesses nutritional needs and identifies nutrient requirements according to age and disease-specific needs of patients and provides diet education and counseling on therapeutic diets and collaborates with other hospital services to implement the nutrition care plan.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

  • Approves patient menus and nutrition supplements.
  • Calculates patients' nutritional needs for oral, enteral and parenteral nutrition.
  • Maintains pertinent patient data necessary to recommend, prescribe or modify therapeutic diets as needed to meet the nutritional needs of the patients and documents nutrition care plan in the medical record.
  • Participates in patient care conferences and collaborate with other hospital services including medical staff, nursing, pharmacy, and social work, to plan and implement patient care as necessary in meeting the nutritional needs of the patients.
  • Performs and document nutritional assessments including nutrition-focused physical assessments when applicable and evaluate patient tolerance to therapeutic diets when appropriate.
  • Performs nutrition reassessment by monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the nutrition care plan.
  • Performs patient access duties; schedules, checks in, checks out, and enter charges for nutrition appointments.
  • Plans and implement patient nutrition interventions and establish goals aimed at resolving nutrition-related problems.
  • Provides nutrition education and counseling to inpatients, outpatients, their families, caretakers, staff and the community.
  • Reviews medical records and interview the patient and their caregivers to collect food and nutrition-related history or client history assessment data.
  • Serves as preceptor for dietetic interns and provides on-the-job training for new hires.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree -Dietetics or Nutritional Related Field- Required
  • 2 Years Clinical Dietetics Experience - Preferred
  • Registered Dietitian (RD)- State Licensing Board - Within 90 Days - Required
  • State Certification or Licensure - Within 180 Days - Required
