DESCRIPTION

Kumo (pronounced "Koo-mo", the Japanese word for cloud) is the global product and engineering organization for AWS Support, a multi-billion dollar business. We build the technology and provide the trusted expertise that powers the AWS customer support experience—helping customers adopt, optimize, and operate at scale on the AWS Cloud. Our products are used by both AWS customers and the support teams that serve them, and are critical to delivering exceptional customer outcomes. At Kumo, you’ll find a culture of innovation, ownership, and relentless customer obsession. We’re developing a brand-new backend tooling platform built entirely on AWS native services (e.g., Lambda, API Gateway, S3, CloudFormation, CDK). This platform enables AWS developers to create the tools support engineers use every day to solve customer problems. We are now at a pivotal point of modernizing how these tools are designed—leveraging Generative AI and AI agent-based architectures to redefine contribution, extensibility, and intelligent assistance within our ecosystem.

We are seeking a Software Development Manager who thrives on building high-scale, real-time distributed systems and who is excited about leading innovation in the GenAI space. In this role, you will:

Lead a team of passionate engineers to design and deliver GenAI-based applications and services.

Shape the roadmap and vision for AI-powered developer tooling in AWS Support.

Drive technical excellence, from architecture and design to operational maturity.

Partner with platform teams, product managers, and science teams to build scalable solutions.

Grow and mentor high-performing engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and inclusion.

1. Bringing thought leadership and ThinkBig ideas in driving GenAI based Agentic initiative

2. Complete understanding of AWS service usage and cost. Must bring in frugality in AWS resource related decisioning

3. A leader who can get the work done without enforcing the authority, and enables team to take bold risks

4. A coach who can care his people's career growth, and empowers to be a SME by developing best out of them.

AWS Global Services

AWS Global Services includes experts from across AWS who help our customers design, build, operate, and secure their cloud environments. Customers innovate with AWS Professional Services, upskill with AWS Training and Certification, optimize with AWS Support and Managed Services, and meet objectives with AWS Security Assurance Services. Our expertise and emerging technologies include AWS Partners, AWS Sovereign Cloud, AWS International Product, and the Generative AI Innovation Center. You’ll join a diverse team of technical experts in dozens of countries who help customers achieve more with the AWS cloud.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
