JOB TITLE: SMT Solder Rework Technician

LOCATION: Clearwater, FL

PAY RATE: Up to $26/hour

Summary:

  • Use a microscope to verify part placement and orientation, manually align parts before soldering, and perform post-reflow inspection and touch-up.
  • Identify and correct soldering defects, including poor wetted joints, solder voids, solder shorts/bridges, misaligned parts/leads, tombstoned or billboarded components, etc.
  • Utilize Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) equipment to identify solder defects and distinguish real issues from false calls.
  • Read and interpret work instructions and identify standard SMT components.
  • Operate in a fast-paced environment with the ability to sit for extended periods and focus on detailed tasks.
  • Perform rework using hot air pencils, hot plates, and BGA removal equipment (e.g., ERSA or other OEM tools).
  • Inspect boards using X-ray to identify solder defects on bottom-terminated components.
  • Solder and tack down jumper wires on redesign boards (a plus).

Requirements:

  • 6+ years of soldering experience (will consider as low as 5 years with strong manufacturing background)
  • IPC-A-610 Certification (active or expired — required)
  • IPC J-STD-001 Certification (active or expired — required)
  • Experience with:
    • X-ray inspection of bottom-terminated components
    • SMT rework tools (hot air pencils, hot plates, BGA removal)
    • Jumper wire installation for redesigns
    • AOI equipment and solder defect analysis
    • Reading SMT instructions and identifying components
    • Detailed post-reflow inspection under a microscope
  • Must be a U.S. Person (as defined by ITAR).
