Job Description:
Are you interested in helping improve the legitimacy, effectiveness and efficiency of Oregon’s criminal and juvenile justice systems?
We’re seeking experienced and highly motivated researchers to join our team and lead complex, high-impact research projects to address critical issues and improve outcomes for communities across the state.
This hybrid position works at home and in the office. Typically, this position can expect to spend 1-2 days in the office each week.
In this position, you’ll identify emerging research needs, design comprehensive study plans, manage multidisciplinary projects, and deliver actionable, data-driven insights to policymakers, justice system decisionmakers, and community partners. Your work will support statewide efforts to improve public safety, reduce disparities, and advance evidence-based practices.
This position manages a wide range of research initiatives. Projects may include randomized control trials and quasi-experimental analyses examining the effectiveness of justice system interventions, as well as studies analyzing racial, ethnic, and other disparities within the criminal and juvenile legal systems. You’ll also lead research on resource allocation and cost-benefit analyses for public safety programs, and examine long-term trends in criminal offending, youth involvement, arrests, incarceration rates, and recidivism.
As a senior member of the research team, you’ll be responsible for ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and utility of complex data analyses. You’ll collaborate with agency leadership, local and state public safety partners, and legislative staff, providing clear, accessible reports and recommendations that help shape public policy and system reform initiatives.
A Bachelor's Degree in any discipline that included six-quarter units in statistics or quantitative analysis methods and procedures, and three (3) years experience using computerized applications to independently gather, compile, and analyze data and prepare narrative or statistical reports. Two (2) of the three (3) years must have included coordinating complex research projects.

Five (5) years of research experience using computerized applications to independently gather, compile, and analyze data and prepare narrative or statistical reports. Two (2) of the five (5) years must have included coordinating complex research projects.
This position works in a typical office environment, both at home and in a state office, with occasional lifting of office supplies and equipment. The majority of the workday is spent at a computer.
Workload can be demanding, requiring priority management. Significant weekend and evening work may be necessary, especially for project deadlines.
Intra and interstate travel may be required on occasion in all types of weather.

The salary range listed above is for non-PERS qualifying applicants. PERS qualifying applicants may be eligible for an adjusted range to reflect an additional 6.95%.

The successful candidate for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.
