The Fitness Operations Coordinator contributes to the success of Campus Recreation by serving the fitness team, and assisting with fitness-related programs, operations and equipment. This position will supervise student employees, provide opportunities for participation in both informal and structured fitness programs, and maintain equipment inventory. Additionally, this position will be accountable for contributing to a positive, friendly work environment that encourages, enhances and demonstrates collaboration, teamwork, professionalism and equity among staff, students and patrons daily.

Day to day will look like…

  • Working with Campus Recreation staff and students to manage the development, coordination, and administration of fitness operations across multiple facilities.
  • Hire, train, schedule & supervise up to 60 fitness student employees.
  • Provide recreational opportunities to the USC community.
  • Assist in risk management standards for all fitness programs and services.
  • Assist in fiscal oversight of a budget over 100,000 in operations expenses

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience

Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 3 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials

Must possess a current American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED certification or acquire within 30 days of hire date.

Current applicable fitness certification(s) (Group Exercise Instructor, Personal Training or Strength and Conditioning) from an accredited national organizations (ACE, AFAA, NASM, ACSM) are preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Exercise Science, Recreation, Facility Management, Student Services Experience or related field, 1 year related experience.
  • May graduates will be considered if they will be able to obtain their degree by the date of employment.
  • Relevant experience in general fitness management oversight.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Skilled in student supervision and fitness programming organization, as well as the ability to instruct a variety of fitness programs. Ability to supervise student employees and complete detailed reports. Strong customer service and conflict resolution skills. Ability to make sound decisions and implement emergency action plans when needed. Ability to successfully implement creative, state of the art fitness programs. Ability to teach a variety of fitness programs to participants and provide training / instruction to student employees.
