Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; one year of customer service/clerical experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Working knowledge of the principles and practices of customer service; of standard office practices and procedures. Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with the public; to interact with a variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds and of varying ages; to perform mathematical calculations; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to operate a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers. Some working knowledge of the criminal justice system preferred. Will need to be eligible for VCIN certification. Current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by the applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.

This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check. Must be a US citizen or have been a lawful resident of the US for the past ten consecutive years.

This position is considered Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Duties

The duties include all aspects of clerical support for a fast-paced, high volume Local Probation and Pretrial Agency. This is a front-line position and will serve as the first contact with the public. Some of the duties include being a receptionist at a very busy front desk, monitoring a kiosk, looking clients up in several databases, processing client’s paperwork, answering a multi-line phone and directing clients to the appropriate officer. Additionally, you will be working with several other units that make up Community Corrections. You will be transitioning between a reception desk and a customer service area. While not working at the front desk with clients, you will be responsible for providing clerical support for our Pretrial and Local Probation staff. This includes data entry, answering phones, directing calls appropriately, filing, running criminal histories and opening and closing client cases in several databases. Flexibility, having the ability to multi-task, to be organized in a high-volume office and to perform your duties in a changing environment is a must. We are looking for someone with initiative, capable of creating and fostering positive relationships and collaborations with internal and external customers. Accurate and swift entry of data is required. Perform other work as required.

Shift

Maximum 28 hours/week; Monday - Friday between 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
