This recruitment is to fill (1) part-time (fewer than 20 hours per week) Student Laboratory Assistant Position in the DeWitt Lab in the Department of Environmental & Molecular Toxicology at Oregon State University. The laboratory is located on campus in the Agriculture & Life Sciences Building.
The DeWitt Lab uses a combination of in vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro approaches to understand the effects of exposure to environmental contaminants on the immune and nervous systems. The position requires performing routine technical and specialized tasks that may include handling of live mammalian models, tissues, and cells, and various biological and biochemical assays with tissues and cells. The individual must be detail oriented, adaptable, and willing to manage their time around experimental schedules. The individual also will be involved in organizing and setting up new lab equipment and spaces.
Position Duties
70% general operation related
Assist with set up and organization of new lab equipment and spaces, assist with inventory of archived samples, maintain laboratory data and follow data quality assurance plans, assist with organizing and inventorying electronic laboratory data, and assist with planning and carrying out experiments involving mammalian models, tissues, and cells.
30% development of in vitro immune functional assays
Assist with and lead development of methods for in vitro immune functional assays with cells harvested from mammalian and/or human blood samples. Will involve developing written protocols from literature and implementing and testing out various assays.
