THE ROLE & THE TEAM

As a Data Engineer (all genders) in the Zalando Offprice Data Platform Team, you will play a key role in shaping the data foundation that supports our supply, content production, outlet, and market teams. Your mission: build reliable, scalable, and efficient data products that empower our stakeholders to make smart, data-informed decisions.

You’ll work at the intersection of data and business, collaborating closely with a diverse group of stakeholders. By understanding their daily operations, challenges, and goals, you’ll turn real business needs into robust technical solutions. Whether it's enabling the supply team to identify the best money-for-value offers, helping markets teams understand local customer behavior, or supporting content teams in creating relevant and engaging material—your work will have tangible business impact.

In this role, you'll design and maintain batch and stream processing pipelines, data models, and large-scale data products using Databricks (Spark), Airflow, SQL, and Python. Your focus will be on creating scalable systems, optimizing performance, and ensuring high data quality across all outputs.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

• Design, build, and maintain large-scale ETL pipelines, data models, and batch/stream processing systems.
• Translate business needs into scalable technical solutions with a strong focus on usability and long-term maintainability.
• Partner with stakeholders to identify and clarify their data needs, proactively offering solutions.
• Modernize data architecture by redesigning or retiring legacy systems.
• Apply a "keep-it-simple" mindset to engineering, balancing efficiency with flexibility.
• Foster an inclusive, collaborative culture that values continuous learning and improvement.

WE'D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF

• You bring 3+ years of experience in data engineering, ideally in a fast-paced, product-focused environment.
• You’re proficient in SQL, Python, and Airflow, with hands-on experience in PySpark; knowledge of Databricks, AWS, and object-oriented Python is a plus.
• You have strong requirements engineering skills and can turn loosely defined business problems into structured data products.
• You’re an effective communicator who builds strong relationships with stakeholders across functions.
• You’re passionate about using data to uncover customer needs and drive better business outcomes.
• You’re curious, self-driven, and energized by solving complex challenges with clean, scalable solutions.
