The Role

As a result of the continued growth of our Building Services Business Group, HDR is excited to offer an opportunity for a Building Structures Practice Lead to establish and lead our building structures discipline across Australia.

This senior role, internally titled Area Business Class Leader – Building Structures, offers the opportunity to shape HDR’s building structures offering in Australia. As an experienced and technically accomplished leader, you will develop and drive strategy, technical excellence and team development, while expanding our national footprint in close partnership with clients and HDR’s cross-disciplinary teams.

Initially a hands-on position, you’ll play a key role in project delivery whilst developing client relationships and laying the foundation for long-term team and business growth.

We'll count on you to:

  • Develop and implement HDR’s building structures strategy to establish and grow the practice across Australia.
  • Build client relationships and secure major project wins.
  • Actively deliver projects.
  • Oversee the technical excellence and quality of building structural engineering across diverse sectors
  • Build and lead a high performing team aligned with HDR’s values and technical standards
  • Collaborate across business groups to deliver integrated solutions for our clients
  • Actively lead as a member of the Building Engineering Services Leadership Team.
  • Champion diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, advocating for an inclusive working environment and fostering a culture of belonging.

As part of a global organisation, you will have access to the resources and expertise of our 13,000-strong team, empowering you to shape and grow a practice with both local and global reach.

About You

The ideal candidate will have a relevant tertiary qualification and professional registration, alongside a minimum of 15 years of experience within consulting engineering. You are known for your technical expertise, commercial acumen and ability to win and deliver complex projects. Your strong client network and passion for innovation, quality and team development will be key to your success.

This position is based in Sydney. Your willingness to travel both domestically and internationally to connect with your team, clients and global colleagues will be essential.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 15 years of experience
  • Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
  • Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience
  • Experienced in development and management of diverse teams
  • Works cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
