CTLP is seeking a critically-minded Senior Assistant Director of Faculty Development to lead strategic faculty development efforts at NTU to promote reflective, evidence-based teaching, educational research, and enhance teaching effectiveness. This role involves close collaboration with faculty, academic leaders, and stakeholders, as well as colleagues within InsPIRE and CTLP, to cultivate a vibrant and forward-thinking pedagogical culture at NTU.

The candidate's key responsibilities include overseeing a foundational pedagogical programme, engaging colleges and schools to address specific teaching and learning needs, managing a university-wide teaching and learning grant, organising outreach events such as CTLP’s annual teaching and learning conference, symposiums, webinars, and podcasts, as well as supporting the university’s strategic educational initiatives.

The ideal candidate possesses a strong grounding and relevant qualifications in higher education research, experience in faculty development, and a commitment to fostering critical and transformative teaching and learning cultures. This role is well-suited for someone who sees education as deeply interconnected with societal challenges and who proactively brings people together to reflect on and reimagine educational practices.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Faculty Development

  • Lead the coordination of any of our flagship programmes, such as the Foundations of University Teaching and Learning (FULT) course for new faculty or the Teaching Assistant Programme (TAP) for Teaching Assistants
  • Design and deliver workshops on specific and emerging topics that address the needs of faculty members and support their continuous development (e.g., Assessment and Generative AI, Interdisciplinary Learning, Service Learning, etc).
  • Engage with Colleges and Schools to identify specific pedagogical needs and design suitable professional development activities
  • Manage related teaching and learning grants to support faculty engagement in educational research and participation in learning communities.

Strategic Engagement Initiatives

  • Lead the conceptualisation and organisation of any of our university-wide events, such as CTLP’s Annual Teaching and Learning conference: From Good to Great, and Educational Excellence (Edex) Teaching and Learning Symposium.
  • Lead the coordination and planning of CTLP’s educational webinars and podcasts for NTU faculty
  • Engage with university stakeholders to support NTU education strategies and initiatives.
  • Identify emerging and pertinent topics for strategic initiatives through collaboration with the faculty development team and university stakeholders.
  • Conduct and support research on teaching and learning in higher education, with a focus on evidence-based practices that improve student outcomes.
  • Collaborate with faculty to design, implement, and disseminate research projects related to teaching and learning.
  • Assess faculty development programs and initiatives, using data to inform continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in Education or related field
  • Possess relevant experience in faculty development, teaching, or education research in higher education

Desirable Qualifications:

  • PhD in Education or related field
  • Deep experience in faculty development and organising teaching and learning conferences
  • Track record in supporting SoTL or publishing education research
  • STEM background is preferred
