The City University of New York

University Director of Student Success Platforms and Data Strategy

POSITION DETAILS

The Student Success Initiatives unit within the CUNY Central Office of Academic Affairs (OAA) is comprised of university-wide initiatives that support both prongs of CUNY’s dual mission of access and excellence, spanning the college readiness, college transition, and degree completion continuum. Programs in the portfolio (Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP), Accelerate, Complete and Engage (ACE), Adult Literacy Program, CUNY Language Immersion Program (CLIP), CUNY Start & Math Start, CUNY EDGE, CUNY Fatherhood Academy) serve approximately 40,000 students annually and operate across multiple campuses, largely under a consortia model that involves partnerships between OAA staff working in close collaboration with participating colleges who operate the programs locally. The unit also supports key University strategic priorities, including transfer and academic advisement, and serves as the business owner of key technology tools, currently CUNY Transfer Explorer, a tool that supports exploration of credit mobility and planning for transfer at CUNY, and EAB Navigate 360, the University’s student success platform.

The Student Success Initiatives unit seeks a resourceful problem-solver to lead the development and implementation of data and technology strategies targeted at improving retention, persistence, and completion rates.

Reporting to the University Dean of Student Success Initiatives, the Director of Student Success Platforms and Data Strategy will collaborate cross-functionally with offices such as the Office of the Registrar, Office of Academic Technology, Computing & Information Services (CIS), and the Office of Applied Research, Evaluation, and Data Analytics (OAREDA), as well as across the Student Success Initiatives unit, to leverage operational data systems to better promote student success. Acting as the Business Owner, the Director will be responsible for driving the strategic direction and system-wide adoption for mission critical student success technologies -- currently CUNY Transfer Explorer (T-Rex), a homegrown tool that supports the transfer enterprise at CUNY, and EAB Navigate 360, a commercial student success platform, and potentially other student success technologies and resources as new needs emerge.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview information, other key duties include, but will not be limited to the following:

  • Manage the day-to-day CUNY-EAB-partner college collaboration, help to identify annual priorities and strategies to advance those priorities, and oversee implementation.
  • Lead or participate in cross-functional teams, including the network of staff at the colleges leading local adoptions, and manage digital collaboration environments (e.g., MS Teams) to support communication and collaboration.
  • Identify applications of different types of data inputs that support strategic goals, strategize on how best to implement, and facilitate technical problem resolution.
  • Design and deliver training sessions for college and Central Office stakeholders and create and maintain, or partner on the creation of, self-service resources such as user guides, best practices, guidance documents, FAQs, tutorials, or other resources.
  • Forge new and nurture existing partnerships, internal to CUNY and external, to increase platform adoption.
  • Create or facilitate the creation of dashboards to monitor usage metrics, adoption rates, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure continuous product improvement and/or adoption.
  • Attend relevant events, including office hours, workshops, and conferences, and stay up-to-date on new feature releases.
