About the Role

LendingClub is looking to hire a Director, Consumer Platform Engineering. LendingClub Technology is continually improving its core services that support its product originations and servicing experiences. As a Director, Consumer Platform Engineering, you build services consumer product teams love, designed to work across multiple product lines. You are deeply technical, an expert in API and contract design, synchronous and asynchronous call patterns, database design, service monitoring, and observability. You will have a track record in delivering services that let the platform team “get out of the way”, enabling product teams to ship new products safely and quickly. You will be responsible for managing projects, technology, and a team of developers, working with product managers, ensuring quality, and enforcing processes and standards.

This role requires a leadership-based managerial style that values a team-player approach, and clings tightly to the conviction that speed is an essential feature. We are a Java, Scala, and node.js development shop. We value speed to market and experimentation, fiercely competing in the market while never losing sight of the customer’s financial needs. The right candidate will exemplify those values, ensuring that LendingClub remains high-performing, scalable and reliable for our borrowers and investors.

What You'll Do

  • Help define and drive platform implementation of key services across our originations experiences and supporting services for our web and mobile application experience
  • Drive a mixed team of engineers, architects, and quality assurance team members directly to deliver excellent software that is well architected and of a high quality
  • Contribute to our consumer engineering platform services strategy, socializing with key partners
  • Work closely to understand product management’s goals, mapping them against platform capabilities as well as project commitments
  • Drive planning, environment vision and build out, performance management and tuning, new SW evaluation, etc.
  • Work with teams to ensure solutions align with corporate standards to keep us safe and secure
  • Assess and improve all SDLC processes, ensuring they are repeatable, sustainable and scalable
  • Drive results through proactively collaborating across organizational boundaries
  • Clearly and continuously articulate “What’s Important”, focusing on the critical few and top priorities to ship

About You

  • 10+ years of software development and software architecture experience and bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, or a related field of study; or equivalent work experience
  • Ideally, you have Fintech and/or bank experience within functional areas like Loan Originations and Banking Web and Mobile Applications
  • You have had significant leadership experience in engineering solutions, with current understanding of stack and common projects
  • You have worked in a platform team and can talk fluently about API and contract design, what works and what doesn’t. You demonstrate empathy for service consumers and prioritize delivering software and solutions that work for internal teams
  • You have a high bar for operational excellence; able to quickly lead a team through issues resolution, root cause analysis and successfully prioritize corrective action
  • You have solid know-how in service architecture, technology stack and engineering tools to enable the direct team
  • You have experience building and delivering software using Java and/or Scala technologies, with backends in Postgres, MySQL, Cassandra or DynamoDB. You know how to build asynchronous services with queues in SQS/SNS or Apache Kafka
  • Practical experience building development platforms that enable multiple product-facing teams to be productive
  • A strong focus on people development and coaching team members
