Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Assembler to join our team. This role involves the assembly of large diesel and natural gas engines, utilizing a variety of hand and power tools, specialized torque equipment, pneumatic tooling, electrical testing equipment, and lifting devices/cranes. The successful candidate will engage in the manipulation of engine components during the assembly process, while learning the technical aspects of engine assembly, including troubleshooting and repair of in-process engines. This role is ideal for those who are mechanically inclined and possess a strong technical aptitude.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble large diesel and natural gas engines using a variety of tools and equipment.
  • Interpret blueprints and customer specifications to ensure accurate assembly.
  • Utilize torque wrenches, pneumatic air power tools, and electrical tooling during assembly.
  • Document work instructions and progress using a CPU.
  • Troubleshoot and repair in-process engines as necessary.
  • Ensure the use of correct tools and techniques for each task.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience in an industrial environment, working with hands.
  • Experience using mechanical tooling such as torque equipment and DC tools.
  • Mid-level mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience following written work instructions, SOPs, and blueprints.
  • CPU skills to follow engineering drawings and processes.
  • Ability to pass written and hands-on assessments during training.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Steel toed or composite shoes required to start.
  • No diploma required.
  • Experience in industries such as automotive, diesel technology, lube technology, tire shops, farming, construction, or maintenance.
  • Must score in the 21st percentile or above on the relevant assessment.

Work Environment

The work environment is a temperature-controlled manufacturing facility split between an assembly side and a machine shop. The dress code is relaxed, allowing sweatshirts, t-shirts, hats, work pants, and jeans; leggings and sweatpants are not allowed. Safety is a top priority, with PPE including steel or composite toe shoes, earplugs, and protective glasses being mandatory. The facility is tobacco-free, with approved locations for use during breaks. Shifts are available as follows: 1st Shift (6:30AM-2:30PM), 2nd Shift (2:30PM-10:30PM), and 3rd Shift (10:30PM-6:30AM), with AWS options available. Production includes scheduled overtime every other Saturday. The environment is clean with minimal debris, and employees typically work in teams of two on the assembly line.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lafayette, Indiana.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.34 - $22.09/hr.
