JOB SUMMARY

Performs all diagnostic computerized tomographic imaging procedures which are offered by the department in

accordance with department protocols. Performs all procedures following exam protocol on neonatal, pediatric,

adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Provides direct patient centered care that ensures the highest quality and

well-being of each patient. Prepares and administers contrast per department policy/procedure. Optimizes computer

images to enhance diagnostic information for Radiologist interpretation. Performs x-rays as needed by department.

Collaborates with members of the health care team to promote clinical excellence demonstrating commitment to the

purpose, vision and values of St. John's Health. Delivers services according to the Scope of Service for Diagnostic

Imaging and participates in Performance Improvement activities. Adheres to and practices SJH Corporate

Compliance Program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Procedures

  • Consistently demonstrates competence in performing all CT procedures offered by the department, including

trauma, surgery, fluoroscopy, angiography, biopsy, and 3D formatting.

  • Demonstrates skill and knowledge in the use of all standard CT equipment. Ensures adequate supplies are on hand

at all times prior to patient care.

  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of musculoskeletal, cross-sectional and sagittal anatomy.
  • Complete understanding of the proper contrast to use for different imaging studies; prepares and administers

correct contrast dose per department protocol. Regularly demonstrates a safety conscience attitude. Performs QC as

required.

  • Demonstrates an awareness of radiation safety procedures for self and others. Wears protective apparel when

necessary and properly shields patients. Wears radiation badge at all times in the department.

  • Performs x-rays and any other qualified modalities as needed by department.

Documentation and Supplies

  • Accurately completes all paperwork and supply charging. Charges exam, supplies and medications accurately at

the time of use.

  • Obtains and examines order requisition to ensure adequate indication for procedure is documented and correlates

with the diagnostic CT exam to be performed. Regularly consults with others as necessary to verify appropriate

procedure to be completed.

  • Prepares examination for interpretation by the Radiologists to include QA, scanning appropriate documents,

retrieving prior studies and sending to PACS.

Patient Care

  • Thoroughly explains the procedure in an empathetic and caring way to alleviate patient anxiety. Assures patient's

questions are answered prior to beginning exam.

  • Organizes and prioritizes care of multiple patients with varying levels of acuity in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Transports patients safely to and from Diagnostic Imaging department. Demonstrates the ability to perform work in

an accurate and timely manner in periods of crisis and emergency situations.

  • Properly performs hand-off communications when patient has left or returned to the unit. Reports any changes in

condition or behavior to the appropriate physician or nursing personnel.

Co-worker and Staff Advocacy

  • Advocates and supports SJH staff and department co-workers. Demonstrates a willingness and ability to assist

others as requested; regularly assists in other areas of the department such as reception duties; clerical duties, and

other assignments as requested.

  • Assists, teaches and answers questions for colleagues. Presents self as a resource to co-workers and the

organization. Mentors new staff.

  • Assumes responsibilities for reading department communications/e-mails on a daily basis and attending staff

meetings.

  • Demonstrates responsibility for knowing and adhering to departmental policies and procedures while performing in

maximizes cost efficiency.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education

Required: NA

Minimum Work Experience

Required: Experience in CT, trauma and surgery. Excellent interpersonal, customer service and phone etiquette skills.

Preferred: 2 years working as a Radiographer and CT Technologist in a hospital setting.

Required Licenses: Registered with ARRT in Computed Tomography (CT) within 1 year of hire, BLS required. ARRT in Radiology (R)

and WY Radiologic Technologist license.

FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS

Working Conditions

Radiation exposure. Hospital setting. Must be on-site at the SJH campus or other facilities to fulfill the responsibilities

of this role.

Physical Requirements

80% of shift standing and walking. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to lift 10 pounds overhead.

Intermittent sitting, reaching, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, overhead lifting and computer use.
