Polaris is seeking an experienced Engineering Technician to join the marine innovation team. This is a great opportunity for an experienced research and development technician who will work with the engineering team to supporting the development, testing, and validation of mechanical, powertrain, and electrical systems. You will be a core member of the team, collaborating with engineering, and product management to understand key deliverables and support product development from concept to production.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Core member of program team, contributing feedback on designs, development activities & supporting validation.
  • Supports competitive benchmarking of whole vehicles and systems; capable of performing extensive teardown analysis, supporting testing, and reporting results
  • Works with Validation engineer to plan and execute critical tests and activities to support program development. Responsible for executing testing of components, entire systems, and vehicles.
  • Works with Validation engineer to design and build tests processes and test fixtures
  • Prototype part fabrication, part modifications, hardware and software updates, system and vehicle modifications to support testing, validation, data gathering, and analysis
  • Works with Validation engineer to execute extensive on-vehicle evaluation throughout development, conducting data acquisition, testing, and providing general evaluation and feedback; suggesting opportunities to improve
  • Works with validation engineer to set-up and operate data acquisition systems. Ensures data and documentation of results from tests are thorough.
  • Maintain daily logs of testing and responsible for the reporting and documentation of tests.
  • Works with engineers, manufacturing, and service personnel to develop support information related to vehicle systems and may help develop manufacturing assembly documentation
  • Work safely in all aspects of product development and testing, following policies and OSHA requirements
  • Manages workload and provides updates to manager
  • Performs other miscellaneous development assignments as requested.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

  • Preferred education- 2 year degree in technical field (ie: automotive, small engines, powersports, Mechanical, Engineering)
  • Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Thorough electrical and mechanical troubleshooting/diagnosing skillset.
  • Knowledge of various part production methods used on powersports vehicles; examples include fabrication, machining, welding, castings, injection molding, electrical, etc.
  • Must be detail orientated, able to keep good records, summarize results and write test reports.
  • Self-motivated, quick learner, can follow instructions and gets along well with a small, dedicated team
  • Computer skills required – Microsoft software including Excel, Project, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint - digital photography
  • Experience assembling, and disassembling engines.

Preferred

  • General understanding of the Marine industry and associated technical design, compliance, standards, environment, and application(s).
  • General experience with composites, fiberglass, and marine manufacturing methods
  • Experience with marine jet-propulsion systems and powertrain integration
  • Forklift operating certification

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Some travel required ~20% for external partner interface, field testing trips, etc.
  • Fast-paced, small/start up style team and environment
