Job Description

The Staff/Senior Engineer (Quality System) in Quality Assurance Engineering plays a critical role in leading Quality Management System (QMS) execution at Western Digital Sarawak (SWK) Operations. This position represents SWK in the Global IMS team, working alongside site representatives from EHS, BCMS, and relevant management teams to ensure compliance and alignment with global standards.

Key responsibilities include managing the document control and calibration systems, ensuring effective planning, functionality, and maintenance across SWK operations. The role also oversees the Change Control System, ensuring that materials, processes, equipment, and products adhere to both site-specific and global procedures. Additionally, the Staff/Senior Engineer leads the global IMS Internal Audit System implementation, covering ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 22301, while driving corrective and preventive actions for any non-compliance.

Beyond quality system execution, the individual is responsible for Internal & External Part Number creation and maintenance, ensuring seamless tracking and integration within the organization. A critical part of this role is identifying and mitigating functional business risks, helping to maintain operational integrity at the highest possible level. Through structured processes and strategic oversight, the Staff/Senior Engineer (Quality System) contributes to the continuous improvement and compliance of SWK operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement ISO requirements to ensure continued certification – Plan, organize, and implement all ISO activities which include:
  • Coordinate, conduct, and prepare for IMS Management Review.
  • Coordinate, conduct, and prepare for IMS Internal Audit.
  • Prepare for ISO9001 and IMS Audit materials.
  • Responsible for the set-up, maintenance, and improvement of the Document Control System, Calibration System, site 8D system, and IMS new hire orientation training.
  • Assist coordination for external ISO9001 and IMS Certification and supports the ISO14001, ISO45001, ISO22301 & RBA certification.
  • Lead auditor for Internal Quality Audit and IMS internal auditor.
  • Support and maintain the Quality On-line System - collaboration with the global team e.g. document control system (Agile HDD+), calibration system, KMS-8D System, AMS, FMEA, Management Review System & Change Management System (CMS).
  • Assist coordination for the IMS Functional Committee meeting.
  • Hold authority to approve / reject e-Cal system, PCN / Agile system and internal audit 8D submission in the system if it does not meet the requirement.
  • Responsible for the internal and external part number creation and maintenance in Western Digital SWK operation.
  • Accountable for the Quality System KPI results.
  • Responsible for the health and safety of the individual at the workplace.
  • Support/conduct cross-site IMS audit in another Media / Substrate site.
  • Assist in ensuring the functional business risk (in the area of assigned responsibility) is adequately identified and mitigated at the best possible level.
  • Any other projects / tasks assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • PhD, Master's, or Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology (Quality Engineering), Quality Management, Industrial Engineering, General Engineering, or a closely related field.'

PREFERRED

  • Experienced in Quality Management System, Quality Tools, 8D Problem Solving Methodology, Six Sigma Methodology.

SKILLS

  • Proficient in computer literacy (E.g., Excel/Word/Power Point, Power BI, video editing application).
  • Strong communication skills, assertive, and able to work with all levels of employees within the organization, and strong leadership skills.
  • Knowledge in ISO9001 QMS. Knowledge in ISO14001, ISO45001, ISO22301, and RBA Standards will be an added advantage.
