DESCRIPTION
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for an experienced and motivated technologist who possess a unique balance of Energy & Utilities industry knowledge, technical depth and strong interpersonal skills. As a Principal Solutions Architect, you will work with some of UK's largest Power & Utilities, Oil, Gas, and Water companies, AWS Sales and several other AWS teams to craft highly scalable, flexible and resilient cloud architectures that drive key business outcomes.
Our Energy & Utilities Solutions Architects are viewed as experts in their domain, and support customer engagements that require deep industry expertise, and a keen understanding of architectural and technical requirements. Principal Solutions Architects will influence the definition of the technical strategy for their customers by:
- Collaborating closely with C-Level Line of Business and Technical stakeholders
- Defining technical trends that can affect the industry as a whole
- Publishing reference architectures
- A technical and written Thought Leader
- Establish credibility in sales cycles for AWS services by collaborating with field sales teams and customers to help design and build solutions that help solve customers’ business problems
The ideal candidate will have worked as a solutions architect within the Energy sector or similar. They will have demonstrated industry solutions expertise and have an understanding of various software development methodologies and cloud based implementation approaches.
Key job responsibilities
- You will be responsible for establishing technical credibility in the sales cycle (personally or with the broader technical team) by supporting discussions across our Energy & Utilities customers and partners
- Educate customers of all sizes on the value proposition of AWS within Energy & Utilities, and participate in deep architectural discussions to ensure solutions are designed for successful deployment in the cloud
- Capture and share best-practice knowledge amongst the AWS solutions architect community
- Author or otherwise contribute to AWS customer-facing publications such as whitepapers
- Build deep relationships with senior technical individuals within customers to enable them to be cloud advocates
- Act as a technical liaison between customers, service engineering teams and support
- Serve as a technical domain expert on deploying Energy & Utilities industry workloads and applications on AWS
- Architect solutions leveraging AWS technology, including solution development and potentially demonstrate technical feasibility through mechanisms including proof-of-concepts and/or prototypes
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or equivalent
- Experience developing technology solutions and evangelising end-to-end technology roadmaps that guide IT transformations toward cloud computing
- Experience in specific technology domain areas like software development, cloud computing, systems engineering, infrastructure, security, networking, data and analytics
- Experience communicating across technical and non-technical audiences and at C-level, including training, workshops, publications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of distributed systems design and implementation or equivalent
- Knowledge of database design and implementation or equivalent
- Knowledge of presentations and whiteboarding skills with a high degree of comfort speaking with internal and external executives, IT management, and developers
- Experience architecting, migrating, transforming or modernizing customer requirements to the cloud
