Sr. Materials Program Manager, Echo NPI Product Operations

Amazon

DESCRIPTION

The Senior Materials Program Manager (MPM) is responsible for the overall financial health of the Bill of Materials (BOM) and for ensuring a diverse and continuous supply for innovative, highly integrated consumer products.

This individual has a business-oriented mindset and partners with local and remote Operations, Engineering, and Software teams to drive the development, implementation, and management of product costing, budget, and the Supplier Plan of Record (SPOR).

As the business representative, the MPM captures, documents, and communicates financial exposures, supply risks, and expenditures related to their product. They are involved in all stages of the product family's lifecycle to ensure that we meet all financial targets and maintain qualified material availability through the end of the product's life.

Additionally, the MPM supports weekly Executive Product Line reviews, which assess performance against budget, target, and actual costs, as well as the SPOR status.

Key job responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Product Management, Finance, Engineering and Supply Chain teams to set product cost target and guardrails.
  • Track the program actual costs versus target to identify program deltas and corrective actions to bring back on track
  • Drive initiatives with the Cross-functional Team to create a detailed cost reduction plan to meet or exceed product cost targets.
  • Work alongside the Cross-functional Team to identify the cost implications of engineering and process changes.
  • Conduct monthly cost reviews with Executive Management and thoroughly analyze every aspect of your product costs.
  • Plan and manage tooling budget and spend.
  • Architect and establish a solid Supplier Plan of Record (SPOR) for the product(s) along with Engineering, Software, Supply Chain, and other Ops functional teams to ensure time-to-market, supply continuity, manufacturability, scalability, and sustainability.
  • Coordinate with EMS partners to determine the product purchase order cost for xVT builds.
  • Manage purchase price variance claims due to engineering changes, component obsolescence, or forecast discrepancies.
  • Drive successful implementation of the SPOR during the development cycle through mass production prior to transferring to sustaining team.
  • Provide oversight of C-suppliers on the CM AVL

About the team

The Product Operations team provide a central point of contact into the broader Devices and Services (D&S) organization. Serving as the single threaded leader (STL), we align strategy, planning, and execution to bring the Amazon Devices innovative product vision to life.

The MPM is specifically the STL for product cost and program SPOR (Supplier Plan of Record). There are two other functions within Product Operations. OPM (Operations Program Manager) who coordinates within all of Operations to deliver the committed quantity of launch units. And MM (Materials Manager) who is responsible for CTB (Clear to Build) during NPI builds.

As a program manager within Amazon, the MPM engages with and drives cross-functionally across Amazon's complex device ecosystem. The MPM's closest cross-functional partners are Hardware Engineering, Product Management (PM), Finance, GCM (Global Commodities Management), SQM (Supplier Quality Management), and MPE (Manufacturing Product Engineering).
