Ready to engineer smarter systems that protect people and communities?

Join IAG New Zealand as a Data Engineer and help us transform how we detect and prevent fraud across the country. We’re not just upgrading tech—we’re building a brand-new platform from the ground up. This is your chance to be part of a transformative project that will shape the future of fraud analytics at IAG.

You’ll be instrumental in implementing a cutting-edge fraud detection and case management system that will replace legacy tools. Your focus will be on designing scalable data pipelines, integrating diverse data sources, and shaping the architecture that powers our fraud analytics.

This is more than a technical role—it’s a strategic one. You’ll collaborate across teams, influence how data is used, and unlock new capabilities in fraud detection. You’ll also support ongoing system maintenance and contribute to broader data initiatives, working closely with our Insights & Analytics Specialist to enhance how we detect and respond to fraudulent activity.

This full-time permanent role offers hybrid working options, with a preference for candidates based in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) or Ōtautahi (Christchurch).

Ōu Pūkenga | About You

We’re looking for someone who’s not just technically sharp—but curious, collaborative, and ready to challenge the status quo. To be successful, you’ll ideally have the following:

  • Data engineering software development skills (Java, Scala, Python, Spark, Kafka)
  • Experience building and managing databases
  • Expertise in connecting data pipelines across multiple sources
  • Hands-on experience with big data and distributed systems
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies and DevOps practices
  • A growth mindset and a passion for solving complex problems
