Serves as the Lab Manager for all teaching labs in the Department of Biological Sciences. Directs all operations and personnel associated with the weekly preparation of materials and maintenance of equipment for all teaching labs. Serves as Department Safety Coordinator for teaching and research labs. Performs other duties as assigned.
40% - Essential - Personnel Management: Manages the lab preparation personnel, including 5 Lab Specialist II permanent staff and numerous hourly student workers, for the Biological Sciences lab facilities in Long Hall, Jordan Hall, and the Life Sciences Facility to deliver over 150 sections of teaching labs for 7 different courses every semester. Hires, trains, develops, establishes and maintains schedules, supervises, and evaluates these personnel. Solicits input from the 7 faculty lab coordinators on the performance of these personnel throughout the year.
25% - Essential - Lab Preparation Management: Manages all aspects of Department of Biological Sciences teaching lab preparation including coordinating set-up and tear-down of weekly assigned laboratory experiments for 7 different courses. Prepares chemical solutions, media, cultures, plates and gels. Provides instrumentation and supplies, and replenishes supplies and solutions during scheduled exercises. Provides assistance to lab coordinators and teaching assistants when questions or problems arise. Consults with lab coordinators to implement improvements or changes to teaching labs.
25% - Essential - Lab Budget and Supplies: Provides centralized support to order supplies for all teaching labs in the department and works with the Financial Analyst to track their corresponding budgets. Performs routine preventative maintenance and repairs and coordinates service on equipment, including microscopes and micropipettes. Makes recommendations to Department Chair for special purchases and teaching lab infrastructure to support all teaching labs and preparation facilities. Serves on Department Instrumentation Committee and coordinates equipment shared across the three buildings housing Biology and Microbiology teaching labs.
10% - Essential - Lab Safety: Serves as Department Safety Coordinator for Biological Sciences. Implements Occupational and Environmental Safety procedures across the ~15 teaching labs and 38+ research labs in the Department. Ensures proper disposal of hazardous materials and waste, and prepares necessary reports.
Education - Bachelor's Degree in a health-related field and journey-level work experience in the specialty area; or an associate degree or equivalent training in a health-related or technology field and advanced work experience in the specialty area. A masters degree in a health-related and entry-level experience in the specialty area may be substituted for the requirements stated above. Previous technical supervisory work experience is required for supervisor positions.

Anticipated Salary Range: 46,700 - $65,000
Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.
Normal Operations
Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
