RN Coordinator, Bone Marrow Transplant - BMT Clinic - Full Time 8 Hour Days (Non-Exempt) (Non-Union)

JOB DESCRIPTION

The bone marrow Transplant Coordinator is a Registered Nurse with recognized leadership abilities and sound clinical skills who will actively assist the physician in the day to day activities and care of the BMT patient. As well as tend to the details of patient care in the BMT service line. The BMT Coordinator takes a leading role in activities in the unit, patient rounding and care, nursing performance improvement, scheduling and working with the directors, employees, and preceptors in the orientation and training of new employees. Working in close collaboration with the Hematologists and BMT M.D.'s, preparing, teaching and guiding their patients through the continuum of care. Executes leadership in the following areas: Direct/Indirect Patient Care, Support of Systems, Research, Education, and Professional Leadership. He/she works collaboratively with the nursing staff, medical staff, educators, managers, and all members of the health care team to accomplish the responsibilities outlined below.

Essential Duties:

  • Initiates and coordinates patient teaching regarding BMT program/ care and follow - up
  • Reviews all medications and conducts medication reconciliation
  • Evaluates BMT patients in the clinic, providing appropriate care
  • Communicates with the treating/attending/referring physician as well patient insurer
  • Oversee patient flow through the continuum of care including test scheduling, surgical scheduling, assisting through the admitting process.
  • Coordinates consults with physicians and appropriate services such as social service, nutritional services, case management, transportation , radiology etc.
  • Prepares clinic each week, gathers all needed reports, films and consults prior to starting clinic so they are available for MD consultation
  • Completes a nursing assessment on all patients and documents in the chart/encounter form
  • Views, follows and evaluates laboratory results.
  • Is responsible for patient contact and communication liaison between patient and health care team

Required Qualifications:

  • Req Bachelor's degree Graduate from an accredited school of Nursing
  • Req 2 years Experience as RN.
  • Req Must have excellent communication skills, including the ability to speak, read and write English proficiently.
  • Req Knowledge of medical procedures and conditions and ability to understand, follow and successfully perform duties, including whole blood collection, and apheresis procedures, in accordance with administrative and clinical policies, regulations and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pref Master's degree Graduate or in process
  • Pref 2 years BMT/hematology experience.

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Req Registered Nurse - RN (CA DCA)
  • Req Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association
  • Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)

The hourly rate range for this position is $64.00 - $105.60.
