Team Overview:

We are responsible for the Virtual Machine Instance platforms within OCI Compute. We deliver solutions for general-purpose, confidential, and specialized computing workloads across both x86 and ARM architectures. Our team owns the full lifecycle — from launching new VM offerings to maintaining and optimizing production systems — enabling OCI to meet the evolving needs of enterprise and cloud-native customers. We are continually pushing the boundaries of virtualization technology to fulfill our mission of providing customers with highly performant, always-available, and elastic virtual machines.

Role Summary:

As a Principal Member of Technical Staff, you will lead software development efforts for key features within Oracle Compute's service offerings. This role combines deep hands-on engineering expertise with technical leadership, focusing on the design, development, and operation of large-scale, highly available cloud services. The ideal candidate will take ownership of major feature areas and deliver end-to-end solutions.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of software development experience in system-level engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience with OS kernel internals (e.g., memory management, device drivers, or kernel subsystems).
  • 3+ years of experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., QEMU/KVM, Hyper-V, ESX).
  • Proficiency in at least two of the following programming languages: C, C++, Rust, Java, or C#.
  • Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and operating systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with public cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, OCI, GCP).
  • Experience with Quality Assurance for cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience with SmartNICs, SR-IOV/VFIO, and live migration technologies.
  • Experience with TPM and confidential computing.
  • Experience with system performance analysis and tuning.
  • Master’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

Range and benefit information provided in this posting are specific to the stated locations only

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $96,800 to $223,400 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

8. Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Accrued Vacation is provided to all other employees eligible for vacation benefits. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.

10. Paid sick leave: 72 hours of paid sick leave upon date of hire. Refreshes each calendar year. Unused balance will carry over each year up to a maximum cap of 112 hours.
