Sterile Processing Technician - Advanced is responsible for detailed understanding of instrumentation within assigned surgical service line, as well as an assignment areas in sterile processing; provides coverage of Sterile Processing Team Lead responsibilities as needed. Encouraging the collaboration and engagement of the department by providing assistance with onboarding and training of new hires. Sterile Processing Technicians carry out the task of decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable medical devices. Ensures the instrumentation is functional and removes defective devices from service. Maintains sufficient inventory and par levels of supplies and instrumentation. An understanding of disinfection and sterilization methodologies and processes is required. Provide excellent customer service exhibiting interpersonal skills to user departments, vendors, and team members. This position requires attention to detail, critical thinking, and the ability to efficiently prioritize demand. Participation in environmental maintenance responsibilities is necessary to meet regulatory requirements. Sterile Processing Technicians are responsible for following infection control recommendations and standards as described through accreditation agencies. Technicians are expected to engage in other task as needed to maintain functionality of the department.
Education
High School Diploma or GED required
Experience
Two years of Sterile Processing Technician experience or 18 months of Sterile Processing Technician experience and CRCST certification
Certification & Licensures
CRCST Certification required
CIS (Certified Instrument Specialist- IAHCSMM) or GI Scope Certification through CBCSP or CHL (Certified Healthcare Leader- IAHCSMM) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) required
