Job Summary:
The Network Architect is responsible for leading high-level network planning, design, and optimization across the enterprise, with a focus on campus switching, network automation, security integration, and cloud-based management platforms. This role will define network strategies and architectures, translate business and operational requirements into scalable network solutions, and ensure secure, efficient, and resilient connectivity across all locations.
The position involves overseeing the full lifecycle of network infrastructure, including design, implementation, documentation, and performance monitoring. The architect will also evaluate emerging technologies, support legacy systems as needed, and collaborate closely with security and IT operations teams to ensure compliance with institutional standards and regulatory requirements.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Design and implement scalable routing and switching solutions using protocols such as BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, STP, and VXLAN etc...
- Configure and maintain switching infrastructure, including firmware management, security patching, and proactive performance tuning.
- Support integration of infrastructure services such as DNS, DHCP, NTP, and IP address management into network architectures.
- Collaborate with Information Security to enforce network segmentation, access controls, and security best practices aligned with Zero Trust principles.
- Architect and deploy enterprise-grade campus switching environments, including Layer 2 Leaf-Spine (L2LS) designs, MLAG (Multi-Chassis Link Aggregation), and integration with CloudVision as a Service (CVaaS) for network automation and visibility.
- Develop and maintain detailed network documentation, including topology diagrams, configuration standards, and operational procedures.
- Provide expert-level troubleshooting and escalation support for network-related issues, ensuring minimal downtime and rapid resolution.
- Implement and manage network monitoring, telemetry, and automation platforms to support visibility, alerting, and operational efficiency.
- Participate in the planning and execution of network upgrades, migrations, and disaster recovery exercises.
- Provide mentorship and technical leadership to junior network engineers and contribute to cross-functional project planning.
- Coordinate with vendors and service providers to maintain WAN and cloud connectivity across campus and remote sites.
- Stay current on emerging networking technologies, tools, and best practices relevant to large-scale, compliance-driven environments.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Required:
- Associate’s degree in Information Systems or a related field and ten (10) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement.
- Experience with Arista EOS, including CloudVision-based automation and monitoring.
- Strong proficiency in Layer 2 and Layer 3 design, with deep understanding of routing and switching protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, STP, VXLAN).
- Experience in scripting and network automation (Python, Ansible, REST APIs).
- Strong analytical, documentation, and troubleshooting skills.
- Solid experience with core infrastructure services including DNS, DHCP, and NTP.
- Ability to manage both greenfield and brownfield network environments.
Preferred:
- CCNP (or equivalent) certification.
- Experience with firewalls, micro-segmentation, and secure access technologies.
- Exposure to healthcare IT environments and familiarity with regulatory frameworks (e.g., HIPAA, FERPA).
Special Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., work in confined spaces, and perform physical tasks as needed.
- Availability for participation in a 24x7 on-call support rotation.
- Willingness to travel to remote campuses and facilities as required.
