What You’ll Do

The Data Storage Engineer is responsible for and lead aspects of designing, maintaining, and optimizing enterprise-level data storage and backup infrastructure. This includes the configuration, deployment, and support of storage systems (NAS/SAN), backup platforms, and disaster recovery solutions. The role also encompasses data lifecycle management and secure data retention strategies across on-premises and cloud environments. The Data Storage Engineer leads and collaborates with other Infrastructure Engineers, System Administrators, and technical teams across the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and optimize storage infrastructure to ensure performance, availability, and data protection.
  • Design and maintain backup schedules, retention policies, and restore procedures.
  • Integrate storage systems with VMware, cloud platforms, and business applications.
  • Monitor system health and generate reports on usage trends and performance metrics.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors for provisioning, upgrades, and issue resolution.
  • Support incident response, root cause analysis, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Evaluate and recommend new storage technologies for performance and cost-efficiency.
  • Develop automation scripts and maintain technical documentation and SOPs.
  • Ensure compliance with NIST, HIPAA, and internal security policies through audits and secure configurations.
  • Mentor team members and provide training for Tier 1 support staff.
  • Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation and provide escalation support for complex issues.
  • Contribute to infrastructure strategy, roadmaps, and enterprise architecture planning.
  • Enforce best practices for data classification, retention, and protection.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in IT or related field (or 6 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree).
  • Familiarity with scripting and automation tools is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and support enterprise-scale solutions.
  • Experience with server hardware (Cisco UCS preferred) and Windows/Linux OS.
  • Proficiency in File and block storage provisioning.
  • Experience with vendor platforms such as Cohesity, Pure Storage, Veeam
  • Understanding of data protection, snapshot, and replication technologies

Preferred Requirements:

  • Cohesity Certified Professional
  • Veeam Certified Engineer (VMCE)
  • Pure Storage Certified Specialist
  • Cloud Storage Certifications
