Madison College is seeking a strategic, student-focused leader to serve as the Director of Libraries & Academic Support Services. This position plays a vital role in shaping the success of all students by overseeing library operations, tutoring and supplemental instruction programs, and student technology support across the district. The Director ensures academic support services are accessible, inclusive, and aligned with institutional goals—enhancing learning, persistence, and completion for a diverse student body.

This position leads a dedicated team of professionals and collaborates with departments across Academic and Student Affairs to maintain and modernize support spaces, promote digital and information literacy, and drive the development of open educational resources. With a strong focus on data-informed decision-making and operational excellence, the Director contributes to institutional planning, resource optimization, and student-centered innovation.

This is a full-time, exempt-salary, 52-weeks-per-year position. Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 4:30p.m. This role offers the flexibility to perform some work remotely, with supervisor approval and subject to change according to Madison College policy.

Accountabilities:

  • Lead and support inclusive, high-performing teams through effective hiring, development, and performance management practices.
  • Oversee budgeting, procurement, and resource allocation to ensure fiscal responsibility and alignment with college priorities.
  • Direct library services, tutoring programs, and student technology support, ensuring quality, compliance, and modernized learning environments.
  • Use student success data to assess service effectiveness and guide strategic improvements.
  • Champion digital and information literacy and ensure alignment of academic support resources with curriculum needs.
  • Drive the development and implementation of tutoring and supplemental instruction initiatives in collaboration with academic leadership.
  • Foster collaboration with departments across the college to enhance student access to academic resources and learning support.
  • Represent academic support services in institutional planning and policy development.
  • Create and sustain an inclusive and supportive environment where all students and staff feel valued and empowered.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to effectively lead and supervise staff in a collaborative, team-based environment to achieve institutional objectives.
  • Ability to make sound operational, management and financial decisions that support institutional goals, budget accountabilities and an effective work unit.
  • Knowledge of academic library and academic support management principles in a post-secondary environment; standards and certifications including digital literacy, instruction, tutoring and supplemental instruction; and, student retention strategies.
  • Knowledge of academic technologies, trends, regulations, access and use as it relates to providing user support and learning outcomes.
  • Knowledge of program and operations management, including strategic planning, assessment, process improvement, and compliance with institutional policies and regulations.
  • Knowledge of data management and analytics to assess trends and inform decisions.
  • Skill in budget management, including financial planning, resource allocation and monitoring expenditures.
  • Ability to develop long-term plans in collaboration with key stakeholders as well as navigating strategic alternatives.
  • Skill in engaging positively with all populations and communities, contributing to a safe and inclusive learning and work environment.
  • Skill in effectively and respectfully communicating with others.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Education
  • Master of Library Science (MLS) or Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree.

AND

  • Experience
  • Four to six-plus years of relevant, professional, progressive work experience, to include a minimum of three years people management experience.
