Northrop Grumman is currently seeking a Sr. Principal Engineer Systems – System Safety and Reliability to work in our Engineering department at the Elkton, Maryland location.
The Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) facility in Elkton, Maryland began solid-propellant rocket operations in 1948. Today, the Elkton PS&C facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems in programs professionally managed for a wide variety of Government and commercial customers. The facility also serves as the hub for offsite engineering and test facilities in Ronkonkoma, NY and Palm Beach Gardens, FL.

Job Summary
The candidate will primarily use established system engineering practices, with a focus on safety considerations, for the development, testing, fielding, and lifecycle support of DoD weapons systems and commercial and NASA space systems. The candidate will provide programs and proposals with system safety and reliability estimates, plans, and analyses and represent the company as a system safety expert and subject matter expert on our products. managing system safety hazards and plans through MIL-STD 882 methods or equivalent.
Job Responsibilities
Work with integrated product teams in a development environment to define requirements for designing safety and reliability into systems, subsystems, and components. Execute MIL-STD-882 or NASA system safety program, from planning through hazard retirement. Perform Failure Modes and Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) on new propulsion systems including electrical and mechanical systems. Present at government safety boards including the Weapon Systems Explosives Safety Review Board (WSESRB), Air force Non-Nuclear Safety Board, Insensitive Munitions Review Board (IMRB) and Payload Safety Review Board. Lead, prepare and present System Safety and Reliability materials during System Requirement Review, System Functional Review, Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review and System Verification Review and other formal program reviews. Support failure analysis to determine root cause of failures. Prepare safety and reliability reports both written and verbal. Prepare requests for hazard classifications for products. Direct and support proposal-writing efforts and/or author sections/volumes for System Safety Engineering and related Systems Engineering efforts for a project. Provide data to and manage risk (identifies potential risks and develops mitigation strategies). Perform and manage cost estimates and project planning for System Safety and/or other Systems Engineering activities.

Salary Range: $131,100.00 - $196,700.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
