Position Description:

Develops applications using Java, Spring, RESTful services and with cloud technologies (Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Microsoft Azure). Leverages mainframe applications built using JCL, COBOL, and CICS. Supports the design and implementation of engineering practices (code and design reviews, cloud strategy, and build and deployment pipelines). Collaborates with product owners, squad leads, and architecture on a frequent, recurring basis to design and influence technical improvements to the platform, team, and direction. Draws on in-depth knowledge of the business or function to provide business unit-wide solutions by developing complex, multi-faceted software applications. Researches and recommends new technologies in support of the strategic direction of the business unit and participates in the research and recommendation of appropriate models, methods, tools, and technologies to achieve business-unit-wide solutions.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Translates and incorporates business vision and strategy to architectural strategy recommendations at the functional level.
  • Translates regulatory reporting requirements into kdb processes and integrates with Kafka, Axway and MQ.
  • Develops frameworks for Finra Fix Session using containerization and semaphores.
  • Identifies requirements for PI (Personal Identifiable Information) data encryption.
  • Participates in high-level, cross-functional architecture design teams.
  • Identifies and consults with internal and external technical resources to produce cross-company strategic designs.
  • Consults on development and delivery of major technology initiatives for the business unit.
  • Consults on deployment of major project deliverables.
  • Consults on the documentation of major technology application.
  • Oversees the technical implementation of cross-divisional or company architectural components.
  • Initiates and drives project or strategy discussions with users or external groups to resolve issues.
  • Sets vision, goals, and direction of team/organization.
  • Plans and leads organization-wide initiatives.
  • Provides leadership, technical supervision, and expertise to multiple teams in broad technical areas on complex organization-wide projects.
  • Advises senior management on technical strategy.
  • Researches and recommends new technologies.
  • Works across groups to identify opportunities for organization-wide technology initiatives.
  • Regularly provides guidance, training, and coaching to other team members for performance and career development.
  • Identifies and plans for future resource needs.
  • Determines technical approaches at a strategic level for the business unit.
  • Determines interaction of microservices with AWS Redis, Kafka, Mainframe stored procedures, and Datadog.
  • Determines strategy for Back bridging cloud data to mainframe.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Information Management, Business Administration, or a closely related field and six (6) years of experience as a Director, Software Engineering (or closely related occupation) designing, coding, and implementing high volume brokerage regulatory reporting applications using KDB databases, Relational databases, Redis, Ticker plants, and Kafka.

Or, alternatively, Master’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Information Management, Business Administration, or a closely related field and four (4) years of experience as a Director, Software Engineering (or closely related occupation) designing, coding, and implementing high volume brokerage regulatory reporting applications using KDB databases, Relational databases, Redis, Ticker plants, and Kafka.

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

  • Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) gathering and interpreting business, functional, and technical requirements -- interacting with end users or end-user representatives to define, interpret, and clarify the scope of complex business requirements and process issues into logical use cases (epics and stories) -- to support the building or enhancement of reporting applications according to regulatory agency standards (Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for interactions with purchase, sales, customer, and account systems applications.
  • DE developing and maintaining regulatory applications to ensure brokerage operations across business units adhere to SEC and FINRA requirements and guidelines, using development (Eclipse and Jenkins), code repository (Qpad and QStudio), utility (Winscp, Kdiff, and REDIS), and build creation tools, Udeploy, Datadog, and Kafka).
  • DE developing KDB based applications and microservices -- designing and maintaining KDB databases, Q programming, real-time database, ticker plants, tick data, and interfaces -- using Java, Oracle, Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS), AWS, and Fix Sessions.
  • DE supporting the creation, implementation, and maintenance of KDB databases and associated processes using bash and shell scripting; and scheduling jobs using Control-M.

Salary: $181,125.00 - $188,400.00/year.
