Your work environment at EXP

In this role, you will be a part of the Oil, Gas and chemical sector, based in Brampton, ON office and have the opportunity to work in a flexible role that includes basic and detailed design for various process technologies. The work will include managing the Civil/Structural department and performing complete basic and detailed design of oil, gas and chemical facilities, and to potentially act as Project Manager for smaller chemical/process engineering proposals, studies or projects. Work may also include field support. This position is in the Brampton, Ontario office.

  • Lead and mentor technical staff.
  • Oversee resource allocation, workload distribution, and team performance.
  • Ensure that subordinates and colleagues have correctly interpreted that which was communicated.
  • Comfortable with communication across offices, working with a team on large projects that are in multiple offices.
  • Communicate with the client, (informs, explains, cooperates, etc.).
  • Regularly organizes internal team meetings.
  • Analysis and Design.
  • Responsible for sealing and signing of drawings.
  • Handles projects of varying sizes and complexity.
  • Responsible for design of structural systems, working out schematic and design development options.
  • Detailed design software and overall code knowledge required.
  • Reviews status of checklists and standard letters as the project progresses.
  • Decides/discusses software selection.
  • Regularly consults with and oversees work of intermediate and junior engineers.
  • Prepares specification documents.
  • Has solid understanding of the project delivery types and their implications on the design process.
  • Understands the design time requirements corresponding to the various delivery types, and project complexities.
  • Manages the design process and provides deliverables within his/her control on time and within budget.
  • Reviews budget/profitability with Project Engineers and Project Managers.
  • Understands a variety of finite element software packages and the basic principles behind their usage.
  • Experience with one or more of the following programs (StaadPro, CADWorx, SmartPlant 3D, Revit, Dyna 6.1, ANSYS).
  • Brings to the attention of the management any potential work he/she is made aware of by the client.

What your experience looks like

  • Minimum ten (10) years of structural experience in oil, gas and chemical facilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering from a Canadian or US accredited university required.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license for Ontario.
  • Ability to get other provincial and state engineering licenses if requested.
  • Knowledge and experience in skid and vertical structures preferred.
  • Proficiency in BlueBeam, is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel required.
  • Self-motivated, detail oriented and client focused.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, met deadlines and work collaboratively on multiple projects at once
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
