The processing lead works closely with the Supervisor(s) and Technologist team leads and assists in the oversight of work processes and work groups within the laboratory. Provides daily oversight and serves as a point person for daily workflow direction and assignments. Assists with personnel issues that arise in daily laboratory operations. Performs pre-analytic specimen processing, operates a variety of laboratory and office equipment, and plays an integral role in resolving pre-analytic specimen-related issues. May perform complex reagent preparation and operate/troubleshoot automated systems. Makes recommendations for streamlining workflows to better serve patient care. Shares responsibility for training and competency assessments of laboratory staff and collaborates with the supervisor on performance management and quality issues. Maintains the laboratory in a constant state of readiness, including oversight on inventory, and in compliance with all applicable accreditation standards. Contributes to the writing, revision and review of standard operating procedures relevant to the processing section of the laboratory. Must be able to work independently as well as a team environment. As directed, perform waived or moderate complexity testing.
High School diploma or equivalent required (G.E.D.)and 4 years of Clinical Laboratory processing or phlebotomy experience; OR, Associates degree in related science and 2 years of clinical laboratory experience.
Additional Skills and Qualifications:
Must exhibit excellent communication skills and attention to detail. Must be comfortable confidently and professionally directing the workflow of a large and diverse team. Computer experience, medical terminology, and prior exposure to clinical laboratory environment preferred. Must be flexible to scheduling or workflow changes due to operational needs.
