The Security Issue Management engineering group, part of Stores Security, is looking for an innovative, passionate, and outcome-oriented Data Scientist.

What we do

The Security Issue Management team builds solutions that keep Amazon systems and data secure on behalf of the Amazon customer. Our customers range from security engineers who need a comprehensive understanding of Amazon systems and their security state, to service teams who need solutions that make it easy to build and operate secure systems. We use the latest technology, including AWS, to solve security problems at Amazon scale. We employ automation and machine learning to reduce, or eliminate, manual effort to help our internal customers raise the security bar. We have bold goals to stay ahead of the curve on security and delight our customers with intuitive and effective products.

Key job responsibilities

The role requires expertise in classic ML models and LLM architecture, with the ability to extract insights from diverse data sources\logs, and user behavior patterns. The ideal candidate will leverage data-driven insights to create robust systems that fortify defenses against emerging cyber threats, ensuring operational continuity and integrity. By driving this transformation, the Data Scientist plays a pivotal role in enhancing Amazon's security posture, improving operational efficiency, and maintaining the trust of customers and stakeholders in an increasingly complex digital landscape. Below are some of the key job responsibilities,

  • Root Cause Analysis: Developing algorithms to identify underlying patterns in security issues, providing clear direction for preventive measures.
  • Clustering Analysis: Implementing techniques to enable bulk mitigation strategies, reducing manual intervention.
  • Predictive Health Modeling: Creating models to forecast issue health trajectories for proactive problem resolution.
  • LLM-Powered Automation: Leveraging Large Language Models to streamline manual reviews while maintaining high accuracy.

A day in the life

You will own and contribute to studies that evaluate the customer experience of executing use cases on security issue management services, as well as technology/industry trends and the voice of the customer. You will join an expanding team, leverage your technical and domain skills, and apply a variety of methodologies to drive these studies. You will collaborate with product teams and senior leaders to provide insights and drive improvements that help us achieve our vision to be Earth's Most Customer-Centric Company.

Security issue management system is our centralized tool with the goal of becoming the only place our builders need to go to understand and manage their security issues and to drive action on the highest security risk areas of the business as well as for security teams to drive campaigns efficiently and effectively while simultaneously reducing the effort teams spend on security related tasks.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2+ years of data scientist experience
  • 3+ years of data querying languages (e.g. SQL), scripting languages (e.g. Python) or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, Matlab, etc.) experience
  • 3+ years of machine learning/statistical modeling data analysis tools and techniques, and parameters that affect their performance experience
  • Experience applying theoretical models in an applied environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in Python, Perl, or another scripting language
  • Experience in a ML or data scientist role with a large technology company

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $125,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
