Job Summary

The SLP AT collaborates with district Speech-Language Pathologists and IEP teams to ensure that students with disabilities have access to appropriate AT supports for functional communication. Additionally, they work to build capacity by offering professional development and educational resources to district and school staff.

What you will do

  • Build capacity with district Speech-Language Pathologists, district-level team members and IEP teams by providing differentiated support for AAC assessment and implementation.
  • Support existing equipment issued to students and diagnostic AAC equipment for SLPs. (technical issues: hardware/software; device replacement)
  • Develop and provide AAC implementation and AAC assessment professional development and resources.
  • Cross collaboration and direct support with AT, district level and IEP team members on complex cases.
  • Collaborate with AT team members on creation of refinement ofAT processes and procedures.
  • Collaborate with AT team members, related service providers and district level teams to develop training resources and professional development within and outside of the district.
  • Knowledge on current AAC language systems, product update and related technologies.
  • Model appropriate AAC instructional techniques for SLPs and team members.
  • Review functional communication assessments and AAC evaluations and provide feedback.
  • Assist teams in identifying universal or designed specific AT supports.
  • Stay current on evidence-based practices for AAC assessment and intervention as defined by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
  • Support SLPs, EE coaches and school teams with IEP development for including AT in the PLEP, Services and goal development.
  • AT Summer support: Provision of devices, support teams with AAC during summer programs Develop and update AAC PD, guidance documents, and process changes needed for the next school year.
  • Support with completion of AT-AAC evaluations, Implementation and device management as needed for schools that do not have SLP coverage.
  • Collaboration with DSI support staff for student/SLP designated AAC tablets/software.
  • Coordinate with AT team, DSI, IT regarding district equipment tracking.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to use the accepted tests and measurements to assess communication disorders.
  • Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of communication disorders.
  • Ability to manage student behaviors and provide recommendations to educators, parents, and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent presentation, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Education Qualifications

  • Master's Degree of Speech Pathology, Communication Disorders, or related field Required

Experience Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in evaluating individuals for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) needs and providing services that support the implementation of various assistive technology (AT) tools for communication Required

Licenses and Certifications

  • TDOE Licensure Required
  • SLP - Speech Language Practitioner National SLP Examination Passed Required
  • ASHA-CCC certification Required

Equivalency

Starting At: $52,048.58

Salaries are determined by factors relevant to the position which may include education, experience, and other qualifications. Final compensation decisions are made at the discretion of MNPS in alignment with organizational policies and procedures. The stated salary range for certificated teaching positions is calculated based on 201 days and should be viewed as a reference. All provided salary ranges serve as a general guideline.
