This position is designed for trainees who will be engaged in the operation of equipment used in highway construction and maintenance, as well as undertaking various manual labor tasks as part of a highway or bridge maintenance team. As part of your training, you will work towards obtaining the necessary licenses and certifications to operate heavy construction machinery, which will include, but is not limited to, Heavy Truck/Tandem Axle (HT/TA) and loaders with a bucket capacity of 4.5 cubic yards or less. You will gain hands-on experience in conducting and documenting essential pre- and post-operation inspections, making field adjustments to ensure safe operation while minimizing equipment wear. Additionally, you will learn to effectively manage a range of hand and foot controls, utilize safety features such as seat belts, and handle the installation and removal of tire chains on dual wheels.
