As a SQL Database Architect, you’ll make an impact by shaping the future of our data infrastructure by reimagining legacy systems and engineering scalable, cloud-native solutions. Your strategic decisions will improve performance, strengthen security, and accelerate business growth. By redefining how data is structured and accessed, you’ll encourage teams to deliver faster, smarter outcomes. You will be a valued member of our Infrastructure practice and work collaboratively with our Manager of Projects.

In this role, you will

  • Design scalable, high-performance database architectures for hybrid environments, including on-premise and cloud platforms.
  • Own the modernization efforts, including flawless migrations to AWS RDS, Azure SQL, and other cloud-native services.
  • Lead all aspects of database environments within a managed services framework, ensuring end-to-end stability and optimization.
  • Partner with development and infrastructure teams to ensure secure, compliant, and efficient data solutions.
  • Reengineer and improve legacy systems while maintaining business continuity.
  • Document architectural standards, procedures, and guidelines to encourage continuous learning and improve system reliability.
  • Bring forward-thinking architecture to business-critical systems and improve reliability, speed, and security across the enterprise.
  • Collaborate, mentor, and guide teams to build future-ready solutions.

What you’ll need to succeed (required skills)

  • A proven track record of 8 or more years in database architecture, design, and administration.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field with equivalent experience.
  • Expert in SQL Server and cloud-based databases such as Azure SQL, AWS RDS, NoSQL, and DocumentDB.
  • Proficiency with tools such as SQL Workbench, PgAdmin, Liquibase, and Power BI.
  • Experience using observability platforms like CloudWatch, Dynatrace, and Splunk.
  • Detailed understanding with infrastructure automation and DevOps tools like Ansible, Terraform, GitHub, and uDeploy.
  • Outstanding knowledge of data modeling, performance tuning, and ETL pipelines.

What will help you stand out (preferred skills)

  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills, with the ability to guide architecture decisions and mentor team members.
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or AWS Certified Database – Specialty.

We believe hybrid work is the way forward as we strive to provide flexibility wherever possible. Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 3 days per week in a client office in Toronto, ON.
