The Opportunity: Applications Programmer

The main objective of this position is to develop code and implement software applications in support of Information Technology objectives within the Port of Virginia.

What You’ll Do: Responsibilities

  • Develops, tests, implements, supports, and provides user training for custom software.
  • Works with Senior Application programmers to identify business requirements and to develop code to meet the stated requirements.
  • Programs at the direction of IT management.
  • Plans the installation of application upgrades, integrations, and other systems changes
  • Researches and recommends changes in the application environment through internal customization, third-party products, etc. Identify opportunities for increased productivity and cost reduction
  • Develops programming scripts to automate functionality of business applications
  • Maintains technical proficiency by keeping up to date on the latest developments in the field
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • The Port of Virginia is a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week, 365-day-a-year operation, schedule and location may vary based on the needs of the operation

Education

Bachelor’s degree in related field required.

Licenses, Certifications, and Credentials

Valid driver’s license; Transportation Worker Identification Credential; Microsoft certification preferred.

Work Experience

No experience required, some relevant experience preferred.
