Job Description

The Business Manager for Training and Project Administration will be responsible for planning and delivering high-quality training initiatives, managing cross-functional projects, and supporting research and business operations. In this role you will help Principal Investigators develop project management skills, track progress of individual research projects, and help fill gaps in project management until KPIs are met. As part of your responsibilities you will provide strategic direction for development of the training curriculum for Principal Investigators and research support staff. You will be responsible for fostering collaboration, leading strategic engagement initiatives, and promoting a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. This position requires strong leadership, the ability to develop team capabilities, effective project oversight, and operational acumen to maximize organizational effectiveness and learning outcomes.

This position may pay more than the salary listed above depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and facilitate engaging curriculum of training programs for Principal Investigators and grant business support staff, utilizing a combination of asynchronous online modules and synchronous workshops and webinars.
  • Apply sound instructional design principles to create effective learning materials.
  • Utilize eLearning platforms and tools, content creation software, and the Microsoft Office 365 suite to streamline communication, collaboration, and the delivery of training materials.
  • Monitor project and training progress, ensure compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines, and evaluate the impact of training and operational initiatives using a data-driven approach with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to understand their needs, align training and project goals, and drive positive outcomes.
  • Adapt communication styles to clearly, concisely, and persuasively convey information, ideas, and feedback to varied audiences, demonstrating active listening skills and tailoring your approach to different stakeholders and situations.
  • Foster positive relationships built on empathy, trust, respect, and emotional intelligence, demonstrating self-awareness and the ability to understand and respond to the emotions of others.
  • Coordinate stakeholder engagement efforts, including proactively identifying and addressing issues or disagreements with diplomacy and effective problem-solving skills, while actively listening to and incorporating feedback.
  • Manage and monitor administrative and financial aspects of assigned projects, grants, and training initiatives, ensuring efficient resource utilization.
  • Employ strategic systems thinking with a learner-centric mindset to contribute to long-term planning, process improvements, and alignment of training initiatives with organizational goals. Ability to understand the broader organizational context and how training initiatives fit within it while prioritizing the needs of the learners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Five years of professional experience in a business administration, accounting, training/teaching/adult education, project management, research administration, or a combination thereof.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of research administration, including grant lifecycle processes, compliance requirements, and sponsor relations.
  • Familiarity with eLearning platforms and authoring tools, Learning Management Systems (LMS), and visual content creation software.
  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in the Microsoft Office 365 suite (Excel, Word, Teams, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Solid understanding of stakeholder engagement principles and best practices for effective collaboration and relationship management.
  • Capable of inspiring change and fostering engagement across broad audiences. Ability to motivate and influence individuals and teams to adopt new knowledge and behaviors, creating a positive learning environment.
  • Confident in bridging academic and business cultures. Capacity to understand and work effectively within the unique dynamics and priorities of both academic research and business operations.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to clearly, concisely, and persuasively convey information and tailor messaging to varied audiences.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, including the ability to build rapport and trust, demonstrate empathy and diplomacy, and approach interactions with a positive and personable attitude.
  • Experience in designing, developing, and delivering engaging and effective training programs for adults, utilizing various methodologies.
  • Comfort with basic financial tracking, budget oversight, and an understanding of continuous improvement processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, manage time effectively, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
  • Proven strategic thinking and creative problem-solving abilities, with a proactive and innovative approach to challenges.
