DESCRIPTION

Amazon Web Services is looking for an experienced software development engineer to define and build the future of cloud computing! This engineer will join a team in Arlington, VA, that develops the Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) product.

Our team develops the APIs for Subnets and and also for VPCs, Route Tables, Gateways, etc. These APIs are described at https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/APIReference/OperationList-query-vpc.html. Every day, customers call these APIs to configure how their EC2 instances communicate with each other, other AWS services, other AWS customers, and anything on the Internet. You can learn more at https://aws.amazon.com/vpc/.

We are responsible for every part of the software development lifecycle, from defining the customer experience, to writing production and automated test code, to supporting customers in production. We develop primarily in Java. We ship code every day.

We value work-life harmony. Our core working hours are 9am to 4pm Eastern Time. Our team members enjoy helping each other grow through one-on-one mentoring, thorough-and-kind code reviews, and encouraging curiousity. We are looking for a new teammate who is enthusiastic, empathetic, curious, motivated, and reliable.

This position requires being on-call for two weeks out of every roughly 8-12 weeks. The first week is primary on-call, and the second week is secondary on-call. We don't like to get paged, especially at night or on the weekend, so we work to ensure our systems are fault-tolerant. When we get paged, we work together to resolve the root cause to prevent being paged again for the same issue.

Diverse Experiences

AWS values diverse experiences. Even if you do not meet all of the qualifications and skills listed in the job description, we encourage you to apply. If your career is just starting, hasn’t followed a traditional path, or includes alternative experiences, don’t let that stop you from applying.
