Overview

The School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, located on the George H. Cook Campus, is one of the largest schools of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. We pursue excellence in research, teaching, and outreach in areas of study that address the biological spectrum from molecules to ecosystems. Our emphasis is on both the fundamental sciences and the social and human dimensions. We offer 21 undergraduate majors, including plant and animal sciences, microbiology, biotechnology, agriculture and food systems, landscape architecture, food and nutritional sciences, ecology and evolution, marine science and oceanography, environmental sciences and meteorology, human ecology, entomology, and environmental economics.

Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Project Coordinator I (Engineer) for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. The Research Project Coordinator I – Engineer will report directly to the Extension Specialist in Water Resources and will focus on working with municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4) communities and combined sewer overflow (CSO) communities to implement stormwater management practices that will prevent flooding, improve water quality, and help prevent combined sewer overflows. This position will also provide technical support and oversight to Rutgers Cooperative Extension Water Resources Program staff in developing solutions to water quantity and water quality issues for New Jersey residents and agricultural pursuits.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Ensures that project deliverables are produced in a timely fashion and within project budget.
  • Uses their technical skills to enhance the programmatic effort of providing solutions to water resources problems at the local, national, and international level.
  • Works closely with the Extension Specialist in Water Resources to disseminate information through extension publications.
  • Supports the Extension Specialist in Water Resources in seeking and acquiring grant awards to expand the Water Resources Program through new hires and initiatives.
  • Helps expand the engineering abilities of the RCE Water Resources Program overall.

Mid Range Salary 81857.00

Maximum Salary 97972.00

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, civil engineering, or equivalent.
  • Also requires a minimum of two years of relevant experience.

Certifications/Licenses

  • Valid NJ Driver’s License.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Requires a working knowledge in identifying green stormwater infrastructure opportunities, watershed management, best management practice design and implementation, outreach education that includes field research, and data analysis.
  • Requires experience serving in a leadership role advocating and implementing good water quality/ watershed management practices.
  • Knowledge in design and construction of green stormwater infrastructure practices is required along with knowledge of native plant species.
  • Requires project management skills to include grant proposal coordination, grant management, analytical, collaborative, interpersonal, public presentation, negotiation, diplomatic, persuasive, report writing, organizational, and supervisory skills.
  • Must have strong writing, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Suite, HydroCAD, and AutoCAD.
  • Ability to engage in self-directed learning to develop new skills to address evolving project activities.
  • Ability to work effectively with guidance and instruction but without needing constant direct supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in designing green infrastructure.
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS, HEC-HMS, and HEC-RAS.
  • Knowledge of New Jersey’s stakeholders with particular focus on urban communities.

Equipment Utilized

  • Microsoft Office Suite, HydroCAD, Adobe Suite, AutoCAD, and ArcGIS.
