Posting Summary

The Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy (EJB) seeks to hire a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor for appointment beginning July 2026. Candidates should have a specialty in housing and quantitative methods. We particularly welcome scholars with a clear research agenda that includes any of the following areas: planning law, land use regulation, finance, and other urban planning areas related to housing. Work with an international and comparative focus is encouraged.

The faculty member will teach both graduate courses in the Master of City and Regional Planning program and related graduate and undergraduate programs in the Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy.

The Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy is a professional school offering a doctoral program in Planning and Public Policy as well as in Health Administration; master’s degrees in Public Policy, Urban Planning and Policy Development, Public Informatics, and Health Administration; undergraduate degrees in Public Policy, City and Regional Planning, Urban Planning and Design, Health Administration, and Public Health. The School has eight research centers and institutes, and annually attracts approximately $25 million in external grants and contracts. The programs in urban planning, public policy, and public health are all highly ranked nationally.

Minimum Education and Experience

Minimum requirements include:

  • By June 1, 2026, hold a doctorate degree in urban planning, geography, public policy, or a related discipline, with a focus and specialized interest in housing and quantitative methods.

The ideal candidate should:

  • Be clearly establishing a research profile of refereed research in high-impact journals and through national and international conference presentations.
  • Demonstrate hands-on experiences and skills in using and teaching quantitative methods.
  • Demonstrate willingness to secure external grant funds and the ability to be a team leader on funded research supporting and supervising undergraduate and graduate students and eventually postdoctoral associates.
  • Demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching, with knowledge of inclusive and active teaching practices. Experience with studio teaching is a plus.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to network with external stakeholders and to communicate with the public via social media and other sources.
