What does a Senior Database Administrator - DB2do at Fiserv?

A DB2 LUW DBA (Database Administrator) is a professional who manages and maintains IBM's DB2 for Linux, Unix, and Windows (LUW) database systems. They are responsible for ensuring the availability, performance, and security of DB2 databases, as well as managing users, permissions, and backups.

What you will do:

  • Database Installation and Configuration: Installing, configuring, and upgrading DB2 LUW instances and databases.
  • Performance Tuning: Monitoring and optimizing database performance, including SQL query tuning and resource allocation.
  • High Availability and Disaster Recovery: Implementing and maintaining high availability solutions like HADR (High Availability Disaster Recovery) to ensure minimal downtime.
  • Backup and Recovery: Implementing and managing backup and recovery procedures to protect data in case of failures.
  • Security Management: Configuring and enforcing security measures, including user access control and data encryption.
  • User Management: Managing user accounts, privileges, and roles within the DB2 environment.
  • Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution: Diagnosing and resolving database issues and performance problems.
  • Data Replication and Migration: Implementing data replication and migration strategies.

What You Will Need To Have:

  • Strong understanding of DB2 LUW architecture and features: This includes knowledge of various DB2 versions, components, and functionalities.
  • SQL proficiency: Ability to write and optimize SQL queries for data retrieval and manipulation.
  • Knowledge of operating systems: Proficiency in Linux, Unix, or Windows, as DB2 LUW is a platform-independent database.
  • Understanding of database design principles: Ability to design efficient and scalable database schemas.
  • Knowledge of backup and recovery strategies: Experience with various backup and recovery methods, including hot backups and point-in-time recovery.
  • Experience with performance monitoring and tuning tools: Familiarity with tools for monitoring database performance, such as IBM Data Server Manager.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills: Ability to troubleshoot issues, document findings, and communicate effectively with other IT professionals.
