Position Summary:
The Driver Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and dispatching a group of drivers to ensure operational efficiency, compliance, and strong driver retention. This role is key to maintaining productive routing, minimizing deadhead miles, and supporting company growth through effective driver management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Dispatch drivers using efficient routing strategies
- Monitor and manage driver performance and compliance with DOT regulations
- Maintain communication with drivers and customers to resolve issues and ensure on-time delivery
- Coordinate scheduling, fuel routing, and backhaul opportunities
- Enter and update load and delivery data in the dispatch management system
- Collaborate with other dispatch staff to ensure coverage and continuity
- Support driver satisfaction and retention through effective scheduling and communication
- Assist in maintaining accurate records for billing, compliance, and reporting
Requirements:
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred
- Experience:
- Minimum 1 year in dispatch with a transportation company
- Experience with dispatch software preferred
- CDL or previous truck driving experience is a plus
- Skills:
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Working knowledge of U.S. geography, DOT regulations, and dispatch practices
- Ability to handle high-pressure situations and multitask
Performance Expectations:
- Timely and accurate load assignments and data entry
- On-time pickups and deliveries
- Efficient fuel and routing compliance
- High levels of driver retention and satisfaction
- Minimal deadhead and out-of-route miles
- Active participation in fostering a safety-first culture
